It kickstarted my lifelong obsession with food — one that would span multiple phases and eventually lead me to creating ice cream flavors at Wanderlust Creamery. Every step and turn of that journey has brought me back, full circle, to where it all began: a cookbook…but this time, one that I wrote myself. (🤯😭)

This year, we celebrated Filipino American History Month with some quintessential Filipino tings: food 🍦, community/connection, and togetherness. And as the month comes to a close, we’re reminded (perhaps needed more now than ever) — that despite our different cultures and diversity, we’re all still part of the same human family 🌏 — a concept us Filipinos call “kapwa”.

The last of Bretman Rock’s Da Fruity SaladⓋ ice cream is still available in stores today — proceeds of which will go to Golden G**s MNL, a Philippine non profit benefiting elderly LGBTQ.

Full disclosure: I’m not a peanut fan. Peanut butter cups? Pb&j’s? 🙍🏻‍♀️
Since opening Wanderlust Creamery, I’ve avoided THE dreaded question : “When are you going to make a Choc*Nut flavor?!?” (or any 🥜 flavor for that matter).

How do we make an ice cream to pay homage to this peanut - chocolate candy every Filipino American seems to love so much (except me 😬)? We concocted this ultra milky chocolate-peanut ice cream, made with fellow 🇵🇭🇺🇸 brand peanut butter and a peanut-cacao polvoron reminiscent of chocnut itself, but upgraded with buttery, caramelized complexity.

You can find this “Mani Milk Tsokolate” ice cream in stores alongside this month’s other seasonals like Brown Butter Sans Rival, Sapin-Sapin, Wanderlust Halo Halo, Green Mango, and ’s Da Fruity Salad Ⓥ in stores this month while supplies last.

This month’s Green Mango Sorbet is the antithesis of Western standards for fruit desserts (sweet, made with height-of-season fruit). Instead, it’s unripe and sharply sour to the point of questioning its existence in an ice cream case — let alone a dessert place. The only sweet thing about it: it reminds us of growing up in a 🇵🇭 immigrant home, where everything seemed the opposite of what was “normal” in America, but eventually coming to cherish these rarities that make our upbringing special.

🥭 🥥 🍒 “Da Fruity Salad” 🍑 🍒 🍍 endearingly named our collab flavor (an ice cream version of the Filipino dessert of his childhood) as an ode to both LGBTQ & Filipino pride, and the courage to be your most authentic self — the very thing that makes him Da Baddest. It’s dairy free cream studded with coconut sport, cubes of jackfruit sherbet, pandan & pineapple jellies, maraschino cherries, pearls of peach sorbet, and swirls of Philippine mango jam. Available in stores through October (Filipino American History Month)!
