PAWS/LA
Helping keep people and their pets together. Our Mission
PAWS/LA is dedicated to preserving the loving bond between people and their companion animals.
To that end, we provide services to assist low-income seniors and people disabled by a life-threatening illness keep and care for their pets.
It's important to be attuned to signs of discomfort and illness in your pet. For cats, look out for these symptoms.
Following our last post, on August 22th in Pasadena the volunteer group 2getherwefly will host a second event, again in conjunction with DogHaus restaurants. Come out and support us!
PAWS/LA has always been blessed with a constant stream of community support. Coming up on August 20th in Pasadena the volunteer group 2getherwefly has decided to host an event, in conjunction with DogHaus restaurants. They'll also be hosting another event in Azusa a few days later--more info to follow. Come out and support us!
Useful resource: Low-cost vaccine services.
Like humans, pets can suffer obesity, and it's important to take steps to ensure your furry friend stays healthy.
These survey findings prove the sheer extent of the human animal bond. That's why it's so important to keep service animals with their owners!
Help us keep our food pantry for low-income pet owners stocked. We need to do a pick up this Thursday. Location is 30 mins from our DTLA office. Round trip will take approximately 1.5 hours. We use a small Nissan van.
Check out this important event from Animal Care and Control. Help ease the burden on LA's animal shelters by taking advantage of rock-bottom adoption fees! The event goes from 8/10 - 9/10 and applies to ALL LA County Animal Care Centers.

Volunteer Request: Kenny's owner is facing an extended stay in hospital, and some members of our team of dog walkers have had to move on. Now, Kenny has to spend too much time alone. We'd love to fill their spaces and get some new folks on the team. As always, reach out to Ryan at [email protected].
(See post for specific details).
Thanks for your support!

A new potential resource for those struggling to keep or care for their pets. This pet food pantry is located in Long Beach!
Homeless in Long Beach will get free food for their pets thanks to John Legend partnership Singer John Legend, who co-founded the pet food brand Kismet, helped Long Beach open a new center that lets the homeless feed their furry companions.
As you and your beloved pet venture out this Summer, watch out for these poisonous flowers. As a general rule, don't let your pet eat anything unless you know exactly what it is.
Hey friends. Going through the messages on our social channels, I notice a high volume of recent comments claiming to be selling PAWS/LA t-shirts, hoodies and other merchandise. These replies cleverly tag actual comments our community members have made. Please be aware that these are scams. The merchandise they sell is unofficial and none of the money raised through them will go to our fundraising efforts. For the time being, official PAWS/LA merch is available ONLY on the store page of our website, or through our partner, Bonfire. I have, and will continue to report any instances of these scams as they occur. However, they come with such frequency that it will be hard to catch everything. As always, thanks to our REAL supporters for their ongoing kindness and generosity.

This one is pretty self-explanatory: DON'T LEAVE YOUR PET IN A HOT CAR! Not even for a minute.
PAWS/LA is here to serve pet-owning seniors, military veterans and those living with HIV. Call us today to find out more. And spread the word.
Happy 4th of July to all our friends, clients, donors and volunteers. And a special thank you to the military veterans we serve, ho served us so bravely in the past.
Make sure you keep your pets safe during 4th of July celebrations. Fireworks can cause nervous animals great distress.

Seems obvious--but make sure your pet stays hydrated. Don't wait until they get thirsty or overheat.
Continuing our summer safety series--keep your pets cool and look out for these early signs of heatstroke.
Summer is here! For the next couple of months, PAWS/LA will be throwing out some important Summer-themed pet care tips. Stay posted! Plus, look out for our forthcoming hiking guide on the Better Together Blog.
If you have a pool at home, be cautious about the chemicals you use to maintain it. Chlorine and other pool chemicals can be harmful if ingested by pets. Keep pool chemicals securely stored.

Lots of dogs at the Dog Days event this weekend wore pooch-specific shoes designed to keep their pet's paws safe from the hot paving. Consider taking similar precautions with your cat, dog or other animal. Even having a bowl of water can be useful for your pet to dip their feet into before they cross a hot surface.
Things we liked about DTLA's Dog Days Event:
-Dogs eating ice cream
-Puppies in adorable shoes
-Pooch photoshoot
-Doggy bubble pits
-SO MANY DOGS
Many thanks to Jillian and Emoji (pictured in slides 3-5) for helping out at our table. It was a great opportunity to connect with the dog-loving community in DTLA.
