We started the summer off strong with a great week of Camp LAMP! The kids enjoyed water play, piñatas, and other camp activities. The moms learned how to make pupusas, a traditional food from El Salvador, led by one of the moms herself, and made paper flowers, led by a former program mother. Eveyone enjoyed two field trips as well!
Stay cool everyone! 🌅💧😎
Congratulations to all of our 2024 preschool graduates! They all have learned so much this year, and their educational and creative journey is only just beginning. Next stop, kindergarten! 🎓💙🐠
Yesterday we celebrated our 2024 Family Literacy Graduation and our four amazing mothers! Here are their speeches along with our Executive Director, Diana Pinto.
Please join us in congratulating our 2024 Family Literacy Program Graduates! Elvira, Keily, Laura, and Mara have worked hard the past few years, and we could not be prouder and more excited to celebrate their accomplishments.
We can't wait to see what you accomplish next! 🎓💜🎉
We’re so proud to share that St. Philip the Apostle Girl Scout Troop 3361 completed their Silver Award projects at South Central LAMP this past weekend! The Troop raised funds to provide our playground with privacy screening, a new shade structure for the children’s garden as well as a new Music Wall.
The Girl Scouts also refreshed the garden by weeding and providing fresh flowers and gardening tools. The colorful Music Wall incorporated new and recycled instruments. As you can see, the children of South Central LAMP were so excited this morning to play and make music! We are so incredibly grateful to Troop 3361 (and their families) for all their hard work in making our space safe and engaging for our students!

🐰🥚🎉 Our students had an egg-cellent time before heading off for Spring Break! 🎉🥚🐰
🌷 The joy of spring filled the air as the children in our programs embarked on an egg-citing adventure with our annual Easter Egg Hunt! 🌷
🐣 Laughter, giggles, and excitement echoed through the gardens as they searched high and low, hunting for colorful treasures hidden amidst the greenery. 🌿
🐇 It was heartwarming to see their faces light up with every discovery, reminding us of the magic and wonder of childhood. ✨
🥚 Big thanks to everyone who helped make this day so special for our little ones! Your support of South Central LAMP means the world to us. 🙏

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who joined the South Central LAMP team for the LA Big 5K this past Saturday! Big shout outs to our moms, Board Members, Staff, Community Partners, friends and family who ran, walked and fundraised for us! Our entire team did such an incredible job and raised over $31,000! Your support means the world to our families! ❤️ 🏅🏃♀️
South Central LAMP celebrates the incredible women of our Family Literacy Program this International Women's Day. Sandra Gonzalez, author and founder of Skillful & Soulful Press, and Ingrid Estrada-Darley, co-founder of Black Girl, Brown Girl Books, delved into the importance of representation in literature, especially for immigrant mothers, and explored how diverse stories foster a sense of belonging. The mothers of the program shared their most beautiful childhood moments and triumphant journeys, inspiring us all. Join us in honoring these remarkable women and their stories, as we continue to uplift, empower, and celebrate the strength within our South Central LAMP community.
Thank you so much to the Mayfield Senior School students who came to read to our classrooms on Friday for Read Across America! We love our partnership with MSS and are incredibly grateful for the support you provide to our Family Literacy Program!
Thank you so much to Children's Dental Fun Zone for coming to do dental checks and talking to our classes about teeth care! The kids really enjoyed the brushing lesson with the dinosaur!
Thank you so much to all our students and staff for participating in our Valentine's Spirit Week! We had Pajama Day, "Bring a Sweet Treat to Share" Day, Favorite Disney Shirt Day, and Pink and Red Day. Hope everyone felt the love this past week!
CHIRLA's empowering workshop on Public Charge and Financial Education was a game-changer for the mothers of our Family Literacy Program at South Central LAMP! Diving deep into essential topics, CHIRLA provided invaluable insights to navigate Public Charge issues while offering key financial education tools.
A heartfelt shoutout to Winston Leiva and CHIRLA for their dedication to community empowerment and to the amazing moms at South Central LAMP for their commitment to knowledge and growth!
Today our ESL Classes kicked off the start of Black History Month with performances of "We Shall Overcome (Nosotros Venceremos)," "We Shall not be Moved (No Nos Moveran)," and a student reading of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech! We also spent time discussing our hopes and wishes for our world, countries, and communities.
We had such a wonderful time on Friday afternoon welcoming our current families who met with their children's teachers and spent time in the classrooms at our annual Open House!
Looking forward to leaping into more learning in 2024! 📖🎨
Thank you to the Arcave Room for hosting our Staff Retreat earlier this month! We had a fantastic time connecting with ourselves and South Central LAMP through play, and used the time to not only have fun, but also to envision where we see our organization in the future.
