Lucky charms! Ms. Abbott has been wearing her "good luck suit" on the first day of school for the past 22 years. What's something special you do to prepare for each new school year?

🌟 We are incredibly grateful for the amazing support from our alumni at our Mental Health Fair hosted by our Wellness Center earlier this Spring! This year's event was a huge success, featuring a powerful assembly talk by American activist Katie Kostner, followed by a field day that included booths from local organizations and health resources set up by our dedicated alumni. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make our second annual Mental Health Fair a success! 💚

GHC held an unveiling and ribbon-cutting ceremony for two newly installed community benches, showcasing a collaborative ceramic art project by the school's faculty, staff, and students. One bench is located on the Zelzah Campus, and the other on the Devonshire Campus.

Led by ceramics teacher Julie Neumann, the project began last November to celebrate GHC’s 20th anniversary as a charter school. Teachers and staff created ceramic tiles and pinch pots, while a focus group of students participated by offering insights on words that best described the GHC community. These words are now featured on the benches, emphasizing the collective effort and spirit.

“We aimed to create a lasting piece of community art,” Neumann stated. “It’s wonderful to see everyone’s efforts come together in such a meaningful way.”

The benches serve as a testament to the school’s commitment to community and creativity, encouraging interaction and appreciation from students, staff, and visitors alike.

After 15 highly successful years coaching high school girls basketball, Granada Hills Charter varsity assistant head coach Nick Kindel is announcing his retirement.

He goes out as a CIF Southern Region Division III champion, with the Highlanders’ 2023-24 state finals appearance at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento constituting his last game.

Kindel will be remembered for his popularity among players as much as his winning track record and his teams’ extended 2-3 trapping zones. Many of his former players remarked on his easygoing but passionate persona, ability to foster confidence, and knack for contributing to a fun team atmosphere.

More than four decades after it was dedicated, it was renovated in 2012 by students with a deep sense of conviction. Today, 52 years since it was first erected, the Vietnam War Memorial on GHC’s Zelzah Campus still stands in homage to all who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Every day as staff and students pass by this memorial—steeped in history and rich with educational experiences in partnership with our community—we honor the fallen. To all in uniform, thank you for your service.
