To encourage women to build careers in the fields of science and engineering; to advance in their ca In 2009, Professor Emerita Bonita J.

Campbell of the CSUN Department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management established an endowment to "facilitate both the participation of women in science and engineering, particularly those fields in which they are insufficiently represented, and the development and preservation of knowledge about women in the science and engineering disciplines."

Media Release: Report Offers Insight into How Women CSUN STEM Alumni are Faring

A team of California State University, Northridge business faculty and a graduate student have put together a 211-page report documenting the experiences of women CSUN alumni who have graduated with degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Their goal: to provide alumni, faculty, staff and students with insights into the women’s experience in STEM, information that can be used to improve the STEM programs and student success in the labor market after graduation.

“Our findings largely align with national studies of women college graduates’ earnings,” said CSUN management professor Richard Moore, who, along with his fellow researchers, works in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. “Initially, women have similar earnings to men and, over time, a gap between men and women grows so that, after 10 to 15 years in the labor market, men earn more than women. We find this to be true in most STEM fields at CSUN, and at both the bachelor’s and master’s level.”

Join us on 9.28.23, as we welcome Dr. Ochoa to CSUN! Enjoy an unforgettable experience with one of America’s trailblazers. Ochoa has charted a dazzling and inspirational career path: from her early days as a researcher, to her four missions as an astronaut, to heading up NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Ochoa has seen first-hand the importance of minorities in STEM, women in leadership positions, and the way innovative change management can push a team—an entire organization—forward. Ochoa is a pioneer like no other. She made history as the first Latina to go to space, blazing a trail for other marginalized kids who dream of the stars. There were few minorities in leadership when she joined NASA—so she changed that, becoming the first Hispanic and second female director of the Johnson Space Center. Despite her many accomplishments, Ellen says the biggest role she’s played is in mentoring and advocating for the next generation: “astronauts, scholars, who will go on to accomplish more than we can imagine.” In her evocative talks, she draws from her wealth of experiences, both in space and on the ground, to empower audiences to break barriers and overcome adversity.

There will be two sessions on September 28, 2023:
