This week, we wrapped up our summer field trips with an amazing visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific! Our kiddos had a blast with the stingrays, jellyfish, and all the incredible sea life. 🌊🐠 A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Summer Camp program—you make these adventures possible! 💙✨

Today was the last day of our Nutritious Cooking Camp! Campers built their own english muffin pizzas, with tons of veggies and cheese! 🍕 The kids had a blast learning about healthier pizza topping options, creating their own pizza, and of course, enjoying their delicious pizzas! Thank you to our friends at Leah's Pantry for an another amazing camp!

Stay tuned for next week which marks the end of our summer camp programs! We'll be taking campers on a field trip to the aquarium 🐟 and hosting an end-of-summer party with some fun surprises! 🥳

Yesterday, we had our day-long staff retreat for the whole team at St. Francis Center. Together at the tranquil Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, we spent time discussing ways to improve our programming and better serve our community and become an even stronger team for those we serve❤🙏 Thank you Mater Dolorosa for hosting us!

Last week, upon their return from Camp Bob after having a week-long adventure in the outdoors, our kiddos prepared thank you notes to send back to Camp Bob Waldorf!⛺💙 We are so grateful to the support we receive that makes it possible to send 30 kiddos from our pantry program to sleepaway camp! But, that's not the only fun that they have to look forward to this Summer. Still to come at St. Francis's summer camp program are Art Camp, Nutritious Cooking Camp, Wellness Camp, as well as field trips to the LA Zoo and Aquarium of the Pacific! A 2023 study showed that 1 in 4 LA County families experience food insecurity, with low income families experiencing hunger at rates worst than they've been in a decade. Bearing this in mind, our work at St. Francis Center remains paramount with our daily breakfast and food pantry. We believe that food access is a basic human right and no one should go hungry. We are thrilled every morning to open our doors to the community with our hot breakfast and serve over 300 breakfasts each week to our unhoused guests!

This morning, Stanbridge University stopped by to volunteer during our breakfast program! We love being able to offer dine-in breakfast for our community where our unhoused guests can be treated with dignity and respect while communing with one another. Today, our guests enjoyed their usual donuts and coffee alongside apple sauce, an orange, and a lunch bag with a sandwich inside! Thank you to Stanbridge for joining us today as volunteers!
