There’s something intrinsically empowering and uplifting about Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Sam Babayan and the transformative essence of in his music. With each composition, Babayan effortlessly melds a rich sense of ancient soul from his native Armenian roots with a vibrant marriage of blues, psychedelic rock riffs, and poetic melodies. This unique combination creates a sonic tapestry epitomized by his forthcoming double LPs with his band The Dirty Diamond: “From the Stars,” an electric rock album resonating with the force of solar flares and 60’s Marshall stacks, and “To the Stars,” a stripped-down acoustic offering evoking intimate fireside sessions among close friends. Addressing themes from ego death to existential musings, Babayan extends a gentle yet resolute hand, inviting listeners to explore the universe and their own consciousness.

He is Oji-Cree, Sucker Clan of Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in community in the far reaches of Northwestern Ontario,Canada. He now calls Toronto home and began creating music under his mother’s maiden name when moments of stillness allowed him to slow down and create music that, he says, more accurately represents himself as an artist. With a swirling mix of indie, soul, and electronic sounds, and pulse-quickening fingerpicking, the music is both hypnotic and melodious.
