Day 8️⃣
w\
, or imagine hands on knees, head and feet meet.
Hiking Yosemite’s Nevada and Vernal Falls today, and am entirely ok with this as it is, in that I’m on granite, have no traditional props available, and am using entirely other muscle groups for what was a ten mile hike in total up and down the most beautiful, wet terrain.
Opening across the chest came naturally today. It’s SO BEAUTIFUL up here. The view from Vernal Falls.
“Well, we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well, we all shine on
Everyone, come on
Why in the world are we here?
Surely not to live in pain and fear?
Why on earth are you there when you’re everywhere?
~John Lennon & Yoko Ono
Jacques Cousteau wants me to remind you that you can stay at his place in Fiji, learn about conservation efforts, see animals you never dreamt of, and have the time of your life October 14th - 21st.
This place that we’re staying is so sought after that we need to confirm reservations soon. As in, really soon.
If this is something you’ve been thinking about, what would I say? I would say jump. Just jump in. The water is going to be splendid!
Breathetogetheryoga.com has the details, under retreats, and no, you don’t need to be a Yoga practitioner. This is open to anyone.
I’m here for all questions.
This month we focus on the press. As in, pressing up. Strength is the game. At you can you see how it works. Try not to think about whether you can do those postures in the boxes. That isn’t the point. The point is to simply get stronger. Feel free to join me. 😜
A walk this weekend in the hills of San Francisco.
It’s hard to imagine that it has been nearly 4 years since we were in Ladakh, India. This first shot was our last group, having just reached the highest road in the world.
Get out of the car, take pictures for 10 minutes, and then get back in because the air up there is thin.
These are some of the scenes and the people you would see if you come. The kindest most hardy people!
This trip is a fact-finding mission to help support building two schools for the Tibetan children’s education foundation.
You will be in the best of hands with my brother from another mother, , who you know if you read my book.
There’s an information meeting about it tonight on zoom.
If you haven’t signed up and you want to come to the meeting, DM me, and I will set you up.
I can’t WAIT to back. Six spaces are open.
Mothers Day 2023
You are far away, and you are right here. ❤️
Have you played today?
Look for a teacher who
consistently gives everything to their teaching
can share that what they are teaching is based upon their understanding.
isn't afraid to evolve what they teach based on their evolving understanding
is reciprocally interested in who you are as a person.
Continue to be passionate about what they share with others through years and years.
can in time, and with loyalty and discernment, become a friend.

Thanks for stopping by, Tias. See you next time.

The art of remembering and Dia de los Muertos…
A few years ago, I went to India to photograph a temple that was in disrepair. It has been built around the 17th century, and it stood inside what was now a schoolyard. Inside the temple were these paintings of yoga postures that were practiced commonly in northern India in the 17th century.
I’ve been interested for a long time in the evolution of the practice; how it has evolved and how we are evolving it.
This weekend I will be running a workshop
with Richard Rosen on the entire history of yoga asana or postures. beginning at the Yoga Sutras and moving through 12 different texts to present day. Embodied Philosophy.
The way we are teaching it, though, is through the postures themselves. We will be learning so much along the way, but we will be practicing what was practiced through the ages.
The workshop is also available on zoom. If you are interested in attending, message me. There are a few spaces remaining.
Every wall is a door.
I was lucky to grow up in these hills with this view. We lived in house the size of a postage stamp, and out here, there was space. Nature became a refuge.
Those are pictures of Northwestern, India, otherwise known as Ladakh. We are going on a service trip in August to see if we can support two Tibetan schools as part of our work with the Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation.
We will be traveling the highest roads in the world. These are some of the views. If you feel called to a massive adventure in a place very few people in the world will ever see, to spend time with the kindest people that you will ever meet, find me. There are a few spaces still open.
That day we rowed beneath the Hooghly Bridge in Kolkata.
Day 1️⃣8️⃣
( w/ )
Home playing catch up and being easy on myself.
variation.
Two days in San Diego “being 3 again.” Walking the campus, visiting the zoo and aquarium, roaming around lighthouses, listening to Liam’s growing even more eclectic taste in music, feeling into how life is shaping him, a whale spine fence, three of the tiniest penguins in the world just waiting at a door.
Just being together. It truly doesn’t what we’re doing.
We carry him with us all the time, but there’s nothing like being with him live.
Just the heart for a couple of days, back to everything else tomorrow.

Friend.
Day 7️⃣
( w/ )
and a totally new posture to me.
Warm up a lot, know that this is actually a balance pose, enjoy your navel into your spine like mad for the twist. All I really have to say about this is wow.
Ready for sunflowers. Ready for actual sun.
Spring.
An afternoon of walking the hills of this random gorgeous oak filled property in Woodside with some of you as part of a fundraiser for the . Nope, that’s not Michelangelo’s David. But wow, this property has AMAZING public sculpture.
I prefer my nonprofits to be small. I prefer to know the people where time and energy is donated.
This organization has built over 140 wells so far, and a few of us are looking for a nonprofit that does that in northern Kenya.
They are especially interested in the well-being of girls and women. And in fact, that is how this interest in water began. If you want to help girls and women, they can’t better themselves or go to school without it.
Anyway, a very beautiful day, and I have my hopes of these folks we’ll be working with.
Wild dream? Establish a connection between Tibetan schools and schools in northern Kenya. Wouldn’t it be wild to have indigenous schools linked to each other?
Thanks to those of you who found my sponsorship page and donated. I didn’t even ask. That was KIND.
Teaching tomorrow at 8:45am. Totally looking forward to it! I hope to see you.
Tibet.
Everything we need to know can be found in the garden.
It can be difficult to think about autumn when we're barely touching in on an actual spring here in California, but listen, we're staying at Jean-Michel Cousteau's resort in Fiji October 14 - 21st and I'm inviting you to come!
There are direct flights from San Francisco, which makes the travel quite easy, we'll be exploring Fiji's marine wonders, snorkeling through coral gardens and barrier reefs with a marine biologist. We will help replant mangroves and spend time on deserted islands!
Especially if you grew up watching Cousteau like I did, this is a dream come true.
Photographers, you are totally welcome to come. You do not need to practice yoga to come on this trip. Yoga people, we will take your practice deeper.
