🥖✨ Embrace the art of baking with this Quick & Easy French Baguette recipe! Perfect for beginners, these crusty delights will have you feeling like a seasoned boulanger in just a few hours. No need for a trip to France when you can whip up these beauties at home—complete with that irresistible crackly crust and soft, chewy interior. 🇫🇷👩🍳
Ingredients:
- 8 grams dry active yeast (about 2 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ½ tablespoon fleur de sel (or 1 teaspoon table salt)
- 1 ¼ cups warm water
- 2 ½ cups bread flour (all-purpose flour works too)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and honey. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes until yeast activates and the mixture becomes foamy.
- Add fleur de sel (or salt), olive oil, and gradually mix in the flour until a shaggy dough forms. Use a spatula and then your hands to incorporate all the flour.
- Form the dough into a round ball and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
2. Shape the Baguettes:
- Preheat oven to 460°F (240°C). Place a 9-inch pan halfway filled with water on the bottom rack to create steam.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 2 portions. On a floured surface, gently knead and shape each portion into a baguette shape, about 12 inches long. Use flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- Place the baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkled with flour. Score the tops with a sharp knife or kitchen scissors.
3. Bake the Baguettes:
- Let the shaped baguettes rise uncovered for another 30 minutes while the oven preheats.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, carefully remove the water pan from the oven to stop steaming and bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
- Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
Tips:
- Keep an eye on the baguettes as oven temperatures vary. Aim for a deep golden brown crust without over-browning.
- Serve warm with butter and jam, or alongside soups, salads, and your favorite dishes for a taste of homemade bliss!
Fun Fact:The French Baguette recently earned UNESCO recognition as part of Intangible Cultural Heritage, celebrating its cultural significance worldwide. 🌍🥖
