Casks made from rare Mizunara hardwood are a true work of art. The wood is meticulously cut, and the barrels carefully raised due to the wood’s characteristics. Mizunara finishing imparts subtle notes of sandalwood, herbal spice, and coconut to bourbon, and precision is required to craft a harmonious blend. This cask finish bourbon was expertly blended using multiple mash bills finished in Mizunara casks for one and a half years.

Did You Know? Evan Williams is a known as a “Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.” In order to be called a Bourbon Whiskey, it must be:
- Produced in the USA
- Made from a grain mixture of at least 51% corn
- Aged in new charred oak containers
- Distilled to no more than 160 proof
- Added to the barrel at no higher than 125 proof and bottled at no less than 80 proof

Straight means it has been aged for at least two years. If there’s no age statement on the bottle, it has been aged at least 4 years.

Kentucky means the whiskey has been aged for a minimum of one year in Bourbon’s home state.

Watershed Distillery and Ohio Liquor are upping the ante and teaming up to release six blue chip single barrels this month. They are all in the theme of the best hand in poker; the “Royal Flush.” This bottle is one of the six, and it is named after the best card of them all; the “Ace of Hearts ♥️”.

A big thank you to the folks over at Watershed who sent this bottle my way, along with an amazing carrying case for playing cards & dice, which was engraved with my logo on it. Even cooler, the case is made from old Watershed barrels and you can literally smell the char!

As for some of the particulars. This is a 6 year old single barrel bourbon. It is bottled at barrel proof, which comes in at 130 proof. 😳

I will hold off on tasting notes for a video review later, but there is one thing I want to point out right now. This bottle is DAN.GER.OUS. in the best way possible. While it is 130 proof, it does not drink like one. Instead it feels more like a 110 to 115 proof pour. Like I said, dangerous.

To land the plane; If you are a bourbon lover in Ohio (or the surrounding states like IN, KY, MI, PA, or WV) then you will definitely want to ante up and go “All-In” to grab one of these. OHLQ will be releasing all 6 of these single barrels on June 24, 2024 and the Implied Odds are that they won’t last long. Will you be able to collect the Royal Flush??

The Macallan Rare Cask 2023.

Colour: Ruby mahogany.
