Left or right - which Van Winkle 15 are you taking? This 1999 Squat Bottle Old Rip Van Winkle 15 Year was bottled by Julian Van Winkle at Commonwealth in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, prior to his partnership with Buffalo Trace. Today, the 15 year, 107 proof variety in the Van Winkle line takes the Pappy name, and only the 10 year keeps the “Old Rip” moniker. Happy ! While the famed Warehouse C Tornado Survivor on the left is the rarest EH Taylor from Buffalo Trace, this black label Old Taylor from 1979 is one of the rarest bottles on our shelves, point blank! As a nod to his support of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, most modern EH Taylors are bottled at 100 proof. This black label expression from National Distillers, however, is bottled at 101 proof, making it very special. Finally, on the right, you’ll see one of the first Taylor single barrel picks, from Yankee Spirits in 2014. Come see treasures like this every day at Justins’ House of Bourbon! 🥃🖤

The first ever toasted barrel, barrel pick from Louisville’s own Buzzard’s Roost! We selected this 5 year, 114.4 proof single barrel with our Louisville staff - head in to grab your bottle today! 🥃

An here at House of Bourbon! This 8 Year Bottled-in-Bond expression was distilled in 1941 and bottled in 1949.

You’ll notice that the label states “we have bottled in bond under the supervision of the United States Government at the greatest possible age especially for the enjoyment of Connoisseurs of Fine Whiskey.” This is because prior to 1958, the maximum age for bottled-in-bond bourbons was 8 years! Not only did this law help safeguard great bourbon for consumers, but it also deferred taxes on bonded warehousing until bottling for distillers. Until 1958, once those barrels hit 8 years, it was time to bottle and pay up those taxes to Uncle Sam. In 1958, that 8 year “bonding period” was abolished, allowing for the creation of 10, 12, 15 and 18 year Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bonds.
