Hey folks, we’re there, we’re heading to the holidays and here is the perfect kids guitar for the young wannabe guitar player in your life.

Fender Squier MC-1 $125

As a guitar teacher, for the last 25 (or so) years, one of the things that makes me crazy is folks giving the kids in their life a guitar for Christmas and it’s straight off the show room floor and has NOT been set-up. The strings are a mile (figuratively) off the fretboard and the poor kid tests his or her pain threshold trying to push down a chord or play a riff.

So here is a guitar that is set up and ready Christmas morning. This is a Fender/Squier MC-1 nylon string guitar. This series of guitars went out of production about five or six years ago. This guitar, and it’s steel string counter-part, the MA-1, are the best guitars under $500 built for kids that I’ve run in my many years of teaching. This is a used guitar I came across over the summer, so I figured I’d pick it up and pass it along going into the holidays. It’s definitely used, it has some dings, dents, and blemishes. This guitar has a little bit of damage because someone put steel strings on it. The bridge has pulled a bit around the back edge, but it’s still firmly and securely attached to the top. Aldo the low E-string tuner has taken some damage from the increase tension of steel strings, but, while it is a bit more work when you change strings, it still holds tune and works perfectly fine.

Most importantly, this guitar has been setup to be comfortable fretted and played, so it is ready to go first thing Christmas morning.
