Viscosupplementation is a procedure in which hyaluronic acid is injected into a joint to treat osteoarthritis.

The goal is to improve joint lubrication and cushioning, reducing pain and improving mobility. It is typically used when other treatments, like medications or physical therapy, are insufficient.

It can take up to 6 weeks for patients to experience results, but the effects can last several months, although results vary depending on the severity of the condition and individual response.

At E&B Ortho, types of regenerative medicine offered include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC).

PRP involves collecting platelet-rich plasma from a blood sample. Platelets are responsible for stopping bleeding and encouraging the body to heal the affected area. The plasma is injected into the affected area.

The BMAC process requires extraction of a bone marrow sample. Bone marrow produces stem cells, the core ingredient in healing and tissue regeneration. Stem cells are isolated and then injected into the injured site.

When it comes to performance health, it doesn't get better than Jimmy!

When it comes to postoperative pain, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:

🩺 Fracture repair surgery, joint replacement surgery, and some tendon repair surgeries tend to be more painful than other lesser procedures.

🩺 There is great variability in pain tolerance between patients, often influenced by their age, presurgical/preinjury activity level, other health issues, and various other factors.

🩺 In general, more pain and longer recovery can be expected for bigger surgical procedures such as joint replacements.
