After winning Ms. Wheelchair Kentucky in April, Briana Williams is heading to Michigan to compete for the Ms. Wheelchair America crown. Her friends from Frazier's Community Fitness and Wellness gym held a sendoff celebration on Wednesday.
Williams was paralyzed from the neck down after a car accident in 2020 and has now become an advocate for her community, starting a podcast (The Breezy Way) and a nonprofit that both benefit wheelchair users. 🔗 ULHealth.co/4dlkxsv

ON THIS DATE: July 28, 2023 | LMPD officer Nick Wilt was discharged from Frazier Rehab to go home 109 days after being shot in the line of duty while responding to the mass shooting at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. His heroic actions that day most certainly saved lives.

Sports medicine physician Dr. Katherine Pohlgeers recently hosted an Emergency Sideline Course to prepare residents, athletic trainers and sideline personnel ahead of the upcoming high school football season.
Training included topics such as heat-related injury treatment, hands-on Tarp-Assisted Cooling Oscillation demonstrations and more. They also had special guests from The Matthew Mangine Jr. “One Shot” Foundation share their story and train attendees in AED administration and hands-only CPR.
Mangine, a high school soccer player from northern Kentucky, sadly lost his life at age 16 from a cardiac event during practice that could have been prevented. Matthew’s parents have dedicated the foundation to honor his legacy, and educate parents, coaches and athletes about the number of preventable sudden deaths.

Frazier Rehabilitation Institute showed off its new accessible vans from Superior Van and Mobility and gave out free ice cream to UofL Health employees Wednesday afternoon. The accessible vans will allow patients to get out and experience the community as part of their rehab experience.

Happy retirement to Lisa A. Steele! 🎉 Lisa, the director of quality and patient safety, is retiring after 47 years at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute. Her family surprised her during the retirement celebration planned by her colleagues.
What’s the secret to her long tenure at Frazier? "I've had people ask me: What are you doing? What keeps you here so long? How do you do this? It's people. It's the relationships. It's the support you get. That's the difference. It's those relationships. Knowing that they support you,” she said.
UofL Health celebrated Trauma Survivors Day by hosting a sentimental art exhibit that shared and celebrated survivors' stories of triumph.
Live Beyond: A Celebration of Trauma Survivors, centered around kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending cracks with lacquered gold. The process is intended to treat breakage and repair as part of an object's history instead of something to disguise.

Members of the UofL Health – Sports Medicine team recently attended the Team Up For Sports Safety event in Lexington. The event was hosted at KHSAA and put on by Korey Stringer Institute in partnership with the national athletic trainers association and NFL. The event is meant to hear from sports medicine experts to help develop, change and implement policies to improve health and safety standards for high school athletes.
The UofL Health team had fun this weekend at the 2024 BIAK Brain Run, Walk & Roll at EP Tom Sawyer State Park. Our sports medicine team provided medical coverage for the event, and Frazier Rehab had a team participate in the run.
