Is there anything more American than this? 😮💨 🇺🇸
If you see anything else, there’s a good chance you’re stoned. 😬

Texas Has Basically Legalized Ma*****na. We Have the Proof. Testing of smokable h**p at eight dispensaries around the state found that all were selling cannabis with potent levels of the psychoactive compound THC.
🚨 Congratulations to our friends and colleagues in Dallas for submitting 50,000 signatures this morning to decriminalize Ma*****na!
Sending love and excitement from Freedom Act Lubbock out y’all’s way! We remember this day in Lubbock and what this moment feels like. We’re so happy for you all! Well done!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
🤗
Amazing! Nice move, Dallas!✊🏼
Maybe one day Lubbock will stop being behind the curve.

Dallas City Council member Chad West says he will be propose a City Charter amendment this month to decriminalize possession of small amounts of ma*****na. Supporting his efforts are his fellow council members Adam Bazaldua, Jaime Resendez and Zarin Gracey.
West will propose the amendment at the June 26 City Council meeting, he said in a press release Friday. If passed by a majority of the City Council, it will go on the November 2024 ballot along with other proposed city charter amendments.

🤷🏼♀️
Texas, via Charles Perry, continues to twist itself into knots trying to make policy that “fixes” problems that they create.
If they would simply stop the willful ignorance, fear mongering, and outrageous claims and start crafting common sense laws for a well-regulated legal ma*****na/THC industry in our state, Texas would see massive economic benefits as well as the many other benefits to consumers and business.

For the first time, the number of Americans who use ma*****na just about every day has surpassed the number who drink that often, a shift some 40 years in the making as recreational pot use became more mainstream and legal in nearly half of U.S. states.
In 2022, an estimated 17.7 million people reported using ma*****na daily or near-daily compared to 14.7 million daily or near-daily drinkers, according an analysis of national survey data. In 1992, when daily pot use hit a low point, less than 1 million people said they used ma*****na nearly every day.

“Texas is one of about a dozen states that has not legalized ma*****na in any form for broad use.
But thousands of dispensaries in Texas are selling h**p-derived products that look, taste and sometimes intoxicate similar to their more potent sibling. They’ve sprung up in recent years through loopholes in state and federal law that allow them to sell their low-THC products with no age limits, loose and inconsistent testing requirements, and no limit on the number of licenses allowed in the state. And it’s happening amid a series of oft-changing statutes and court decisions that throw retailers, advocates, police, prosecutors and parents into confusion over what’s actually legal to buy, sell, possess and consume.
Since consumable h**p was legalized in Texas , the number of retail registrations for consumable h**p products has exploded in the state.
In 2020, the first year the Texas Department of State Health Services began registering retailers, some 1,948 retailers were actively registered. By 2023, that number had jumped to 8,343. And in the first four months of 2024, the state has already seen more than 7,700 active registrations.”

“The proposed reform drew loud opposition from local conservative leaders, like Texas Rep. Carl Tepper.
He explained why he believed the effort failed there, while six other Texas cities — Austin, Denton, Elgin, Harker Heights, Killeen and San Marcos — already approved similar decriminalization measures.
“Because Lubbock has common sense,” Tepper said Thursday. “People from Lubbock travel a lot. We’re a great place to live, but our folks like to go out of town for vacation. Again, they’ve been to Portland; they’ve been to Denver; they’ve been in New York City. They have some common sense. Those other communities made a horrible, terrible mistake.”

Good morning!

“A lot of younger people did not show up,” Hernandez said. “We have to sort of battle that narrative that our vote doesn’t count or that everything is just predetermined. It just doesn’t work like that on a local level.”
When it comes to trying to get ma*****na decriminalization on a future ballot here in Lubbock, Hernandez said it’s too early to tell just yet.
“The reason why it depends is because we have two cities that are underway right now collecting signatures for similar ordinances,” he said. “I just don’t know how many cities it’s going to take before the state legislature says, okay, this is what the majority of our citizens want.”

“The important thing is how many people from Lubbock, Texas voted FOR the proposition. A full 35%, that's 1 in 3 voted for it and that's amazing. It's a clear and present signal that times are changing. It took several times before all of the hyperbole and falsehoods about legalizing alcohol were overcome, so this should be seen as a positive and constructive step forward.”

Dear Friends, Volunteers, and Supporters of Freedom Act Lubbock,
As we reflect on the outcome of the Prop A election, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and passionate advocacy for our cause have been the heartbeat of this campaign.
Though the results weren’t in our favor, the journey we’ve embarked on together has been nothing short of remarkable. Your voices have echoed through the streets of Lubbock —and the state of Texas— sparking conversations, raising awareness, and building a community united by a shared vision of progress.
Your dedication as volunteers has been the driving force behind our movement, and we could not have done it without you.
You’ve knocked on countless doors, tabled for hours on end, and endured sunburns, storms, and extreme temperature swings while standing steadfast in the face of adversity, all with the belief that change is possible.
Remember, the fight for justice and liberty does not end here. The seeds we’ve planted together have taken root, and from them, new opportunities for growth and change will emerge. Let’s continue advocating for the values we hold dear.
To our followers and everyone who signed a petition, donated, or voted for Prop A, your support has been our inspiration. Your belief in our mission has fueled our efforts and given us the strength to persevere.
In closing, I am reminded that every great movement in history has faced its share of challenges and victory does not always arrive upon a first pass. It is through resilience and continued advocacy that we pave the way for a brighter future.
So, let’s look forward with hope, for our cause is just, and our resolve is strong. 💚
With heartfelt thanks,
Kim Gonzalez
