Mother Myrta S. Haynes, 90 of Lubbock, departed this life on Monday, June 19th, 2023. Celebration of life Service will be held Thursday, June 29th, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Broadway Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary, Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Christ Temple C.O.G.I.C. Myrta Sue Haynes was one of four girls born to the late Supt. Joseph and Mother Leceola Andrews July 10, 1932 in Eldorado, Arkansas. Myrta was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age. The late Bishop Issac Finley, Oakland California and the late Bishop E. E. Hamilton San Francisco were her former Pastors. Myrta was very active in church participating in all children and Young Women’s auxiliaries. She played the piano for churches under the supervision of her most admired and inspirational mother. Myrta attended Prescott Elementary School and graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland, California. Myrta graduated as an honor student in Business Administration. Myrta also attended Merritt Business College in Berkeley California.1st Mother Haynes married Bishop W. D. Haynes Sr in 1952 and remained married to him for forty-eight years until his demise on July 2, 2000. To this union was born a son, W. David Haynes, which was the pride and joy of their lives. She was a member of Christ Temple COGIC in Lubbock, Texas where her son, Supt. W. David Haynes is the pastor. After becoming a widow Her Pastor Supt. W. David Haynes gave her the title of being called 1st Mother Myrta Haynes (no more 1st Lady of Christ Temple). 1st Mother Haynes acclaimed many accomplishments and recognitions for the outstanding work she has done in her walk with the Lord. To God be the Glory! She received a certificate for being an outstanding Pastor’s Wife from the late Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr. The Lubbock Digest recognized her as being the 2nd Best-Dressed Women in Lubbock (2007). She received a plaque as one of the Outstanding Musicians from the Federation of Choirs, Woman of the Year Award, Lay Person TNW (2004), Christ Temple Mother of the Year (2008), Musician for Christ Temple over 50 Years, and many other recognitions for her labor in the vineyard of the Lord. 1st Mother Haynes served as Chairperson of the Local Women’s Convention, Women’s Annual, and Choir President. She served as the Musician for the Women’s Department (Choir) TNW. 1st Mother Haynes served as a Pastor’s Wife (48 years) and as a Superintendent’s Wife as well as a Bishop’s Wife. Her travels outside of the United States include Panama, Hawaii, Germany, California, Mexico, and many other States. Women that have touched her life include the late National Supervisor Dr. Mattie McGlothen of California, the Late Mother Hearne of Oklahoma, the late Supervisor Mable Houston, late Mable Myrtle Brooks of Texas Northwest Texas, and late State Supervisor Mother Victorine Mackey. 1st Mother Haynes served on the TNW Executive Board under State Supervisor Mary Barnes TNW. Mother Haynes served as the President of the Widow’s in Fellowship TNW. President of Elders and Ministers Wives for Slaton Memorial District. Favorite Scripture: Psalm 34:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” 1st Mother Haynes served as Administrator for the Justice Department in Lubbock, Texas. She worked in the Tax Assessor office, Hemphill Wells Department Store, Dunlap’s Department Store, Lubbock County CourtHouse in Justice of the Peace Courts, Judge McKinley Shephard, Judge William Ross, Judge Jim Hansen. In her local Church 1st Mother Haynes served as Church Administrator, a Sunday School Teacher, and Teacher of World Mission. Mother Haynes is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joseph Henry Andrews Jr, and her husband. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her son Supt W. David Haynes, her sisters, Ola Andrews, Jonelle Perry, Paula House, and Sylvia House; grandchildren Brenton Haynes (Tiffany), Kendy Haynes, Victoria, Joseph, Jayla; 9 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews as well as friends and church family.
