Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center
Offers equine-assisted therapy to children and adults with emotional, physical, and cognitive needs
Calling all interested volunteers! We are hosting a sidewalker training before our Fall lessons start. If you have ever wanted to volunteer, now is the time to come join us for training!
*Seeking gently used cowboy boots donations*
We are putting together a boot closet for our riders to be able to borrow appropriate footwear to wear during lessons.
Sometimes riders show up and have forgotten them or might have trouble buying new ones as kids grow. So to ease the burden, we want to have a closet of boots of all sizes available to use.
What we need:
New or gently used (no holes) cowboy boots, lace up boots or english paddock boots
Leather for easy cleaning
No rain boots or soft bottom shoes
All kids, women's and men's sizes
TTRC is extremely proud of Kai Ometzberger and Tracy Cowin for going through CHA IRD certification this past week in Indiana! Kelcee Heinrich attended as an auditor to learn more about CHA and how it can add to the programs at TTRC.
We are so proud of yall!! 🎉🎉🎉
Yesterday TTRC was honored to have the ‘24 Cohort of the Mandela Washington Fellowship out. They were able to learn about all of our programs, grooming and lead horses and get some great photos to take home! Thank you Mandela group for visiting TTRC! We love having yall 🥰

Kai has been with us now for about three years as a part time student worker and has done incredible things during her time here. Not only is she an amazing instructor, she is also great with the herd and volunteers. TTRC is so excited to welcome Kai on as a full time staff and look forward to all the wonderful things she will continue to do 🤩

Each semester we have to say goodbye to great employees because of graduation. Usually we have 2-3 each year. This year we have had 12 graduates in the TTRC program!!! I know they will go out and do amazing things but we sure are going to miss each and every one of them. Thank you for giving so much of yourselves to TTRC and all the hardworking you put in. I’m so proud of each one of you ~Tangi (aka work mom) 🥰
The TTRC herd is getting all taken care of during their time off. Today they got their feet trimmed and those with shoes, got a brand new shiny set. Every 6-8 weeks they get their feet done. Stay tuned for more adventures from TTRCs herd 🥰
Horses teeth continuously grow throughout their lives. That means, in order for them to eat properly, their teeth have to get filed down every so often. This is known as floating the horses teeth. Most of TTRCs horses got done today so they are ready for summer!!!
Even though the horses at TTRC are the best around, we still want to make sure they are comfortable in their environments. Today horses had a refresher in ramp mounts and then headed out to be reintroduced to the sensory trail. We put a lot of time and love into these incredible horses. I spy 3 cute Fjords 🤩
TTRC was honored to be requested by TTU International Affairs as a site for members associated with the Central American Research Symposium (CARS) to visit.
The goal of CARS is to increase international collaborations between TTU faculty, graduate students, and faculty researchers at Higher Education institutions in Central America.
We shared information on equine-assisted services provided at TTRC, including the various research studies conducted at the center. The group got to meet our herd and learn of the benefits that come from working with and around horses.
Thank you for choosing to visit TTRC!
Did you know that during breaks from sessions, TTRC is preparing for riders in many different ways?! One of those ways is getting our arena footing back and making sure it’s good for our horses, riders, volunteers and staff.
TTRCs sensory trail is looking good! 🥰
A huge thank you to everyone who supported TTRC for our annual Spring Roundup 🥰
Final numbers won’t be available for a few days but it’s looking like we surpassed our goal and did pretty well. Again, thank you to everyone who had any part in the success of the event. We have incredible people and we are so thankful for you ❤️🖤❤️🖤
Thank you Ramirez Elementary School for inviting TTRC to your career fair! We loved getting to share information on the program and hope your students choose to pursue careers in equine-assisted services 🐴♥️
Thanks for being a top engager on TTRC’s posts!🎉 We appreciate your interactions and comments on what we share. This helps spread more awareness on information and services provided by TTRC. We are grateful for your support ♥️

Several staff from TTRC are serving as reviewers for the end of semester final projects for ARCH 5602. TTRC was the model for this project and we are looking at many projects for the standpoint of the end user.
Thank you to all of the incredible architecture students for putting so much work into your proposals and for sharing them with us.

We've made the difficult decision to cancel Ranch Day due to the severity of tomorrow's weather forecast.
We know this is a disappointment for many of you—us too, it's one of our favorite days of the year!—but we still have a lineup of fun events to look forward to in the coming months. Check out the full event calendar at ranchingheritage.org/nrhc-events. And remember, rain or shine, the indoor museum is open 7 days a week!
We've received a few queries about the possibility of rescheduling Ranch Day. Unfortunately, re-coordinating 200+ volunteers, organizations, and livestock makes rescheduling the event unrealistic. We hope you see you all for Ranch Day in 2025!
Here’s some info on Ranch Day!! ♥️🐴👇🏻
Irma, Jose, and Michael are putting safety first! They’ve got their eclipse glasses close by and are ready to use them ☀️😎
We want to wish everyone a very Happy Easter!! We will be closed on Monday April 1st in observance of this holiday. 🐣🐰 Here is Nitro wishing this was a real carrot! 🥕
