We're thrilled to congratulate Jade Waples, an Edmonds alum, for being selected as a featured designer by the Association of Professional Landscape Designers-Washington Chapter (APLDWA)!
"I began my career in horticulture and landscape design with a serendipitous summer class at Edmonds College at the Bellevue Botanical Garden," said Jade. "A friend of mine was taking the class and invited me to join her. I was intending to enter a graphic design program the following semester. Through that class, I learned that I could make a career choice that combined my love of art and design with the natural world, backed up by science and environmental awareness."
Jade eventually graduated from our landscape design program, and she and her husband now own their own landscape construction business, Orion Rockscapes.

Mature trees are a valued asset in the landscape. Misunderstandings about mature tree root systems can contribute to the decline and loss of trees intended for preservation. This class will cover current best management practices for protecting trees and improving results for companion plantings when installing new gardens and maintaining older plantings amidst the roots and shade of existing trees. Optimal methods for installing landscape features such as pavers, hardscape, plants, irrigation, and drainage will be covered. Case studies from the instructor's work and consulting experience with native and non-native tree species will be included. Lecture and field practice on campus.

🌱 We’re thrilled to share that Jeff Oliver has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from Edmonds in Bloom! 🎉 Jeff and his wife, Joanna, are passionate horticulture students who chose Edmonds to pursue their dreams after the pandemic disrupted their pet care careers.
According to Jeff, “Edmonds has given me a foundation to really know what I’m doing and get much higher paying jobs than I thought possible. I thought I was going back to school to just get a little bit away from minimum wage.”
With an associate degree in sustainable landscape management and a certificate in urban agriculture just around the corner, Jeff's sights are set on a rewarding career in ecological restoration. As he puts it, "It's like solving puzzles with plants." 🌿✨
