Davy Mayer for District 6 Alder

Page for updates on Davy Mayer's campaign for alder of District 6 in Madison, Wisconsin.

I like August elections because they’re the only ones I can wear sandals to and the only ones where I see some sunlight on the way in.

This one was extra fun because our polling place was locked at 6am due to a miscommunication with building staff and we didn’t get in until 6:40! But while we were waiting, we formed a plan and managed to have the basic legal setup ready to go by 6:55 and our first voters were through the door at 7. Big ups to the poll workers of Ward 55!

I wanted to share a message last night after the election results came in but Facebook was giving me grief while trying to post to this page. Anyways, the results obviously didn't go the way I wanted and I'm disappointed that I will not be able to serve as your next alder. But my team ran a great campaign where I forged many new friendships and received so much support for my platform of affordable, abundant housing, world-class people-first transit infrastructure, and an equitable city with opportunity for all. I am proud of the work that we did and so thankful for the experience.

I know that District 6 will be in the good hands of Marsha. Her success over the next two years means success for our district.

Lastly, I want to toast all of my supporters and everyone who turned out to vote today. Taking a closer look at the results, District 6 had the second-highest total number of alder votes in the city! That shows an amazing level of engagement and I am humbled to have been a part of that! And the GOLD lining to this election is that not only did Mayor Satya win re-election, but Judge Janet Protasiewicz won election to the State Supreme Court. We now have hope of dismantling this heinous gerrymandering and restoring representative democracy to Wisconsin!

I pledge to remain engaged. When you see me out and about, do not hesitate to introduce yourself so that we can talk about the future of District 6 and Madison!

I was out during the morning commute waving my sign (101 legal feet) outside of my polling place, receiving friendly honks from passing cars and hellos from bikers. (I might have accidentally waved “back” at a couple bikers who were signaling right turns.) Got a coffee at the Rotunda Cafe and headed back to vote. Get out there before the rain starts in earnest! Every vote counts!

Dear Neighbors,
I want to give you a big thanks from the bottom of my heart. During this campaign, so many people reached out to lend a hand, offer great advice and insights about our neighborhood, and show me that friendly east side spirit that makes our community so special.

It was a big decision to step up and run for alder. I know the many issues our city faces and that this is one of the most challenging districts to represent with the rapid changes we are experiencing. However, I will work every day alongside our friends and neighbors to make sure that as our district changes, that we never lose the core values and principles that we built our community upon.

I am humbly asking for your vote Tuesday. And I want to thank you as this campaign has affected me in so many positive ways and reaffirmed my belief that ordinary residents working together can make extraordinary changes in the world.

Please join me tomorrow night at the Crystal Corner as we watch the results come in, toast the hard work we did together in this campaign and celebrate democracy in action!

Your neighbor,
Davy

Last stint doing doors and it’s out in the rain. I kept knocking until I finished the list that was falling apart off my poor clipboard. But I continue to be humbled by the amazing response I get at doors — “I’m voting for you,” or better yet, “I already voted for you!”

Drying off with a nice Reuben at Mickey’s and looking forward to the exciting conclusion Tuesday!

Doing doors in Tenney-Lapham today. Cold and I think it sleeted for a few minutes. But met lots of folks, got lots of support and planted a couple yard signs. And met an orange cat named Bill.

Last week a mysterious postcard appeared in my mailbox. It was promoting my campaign, but it wasn't from us! Here's the statement I just sent out to neighborhood email lists:

---

Statement Regarding Outside Spending in District 6 Alder Race

Dear District 6 Neighbors,

As you have likely heard, the Realtors Association of South Central Wisconsin Housing Advocacy Fund has spent large sums of money in support of nine alder candidates in the spring elections. The District 6 expenditures were postcards and other communications that could be construed as coming from my campaign.

I was as surprised as anyone by these expenditures and knew nothing of them until this mailer appeared in my mailbox last week. By law I cannot coordinate with these types of groups and I will not.

I strongly oppose these types of outside spending. Not only should we attempt to limit the activities of these groups, but this is yet another reason that we should have publicly-financed local political campaigns.

Davy Mayer, District 6 Alder Candidate

Doors doors doors this weekend. Saturday was brutal with cold winds a-blowin' but people were still very interested to open up and talk about the issues. The weather was much kinder on Sunday. I forgot to take pictures while I was out so here is a photo of my latest lit piece.

Thank you to everyone who came out to my event last night, and thank you Alder Patrick Heck and to Cargo Coffee for hosting us! Great to see so many familiar and new faces and to talk about the issues facing District 6 and the city as a whole.

Contributions are still very much welcome at: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/davy-for-alder-with-alder-heck

Doors doors doors with my trusty clipboard. A little rain but elections don’t care! Also met a cat with the quietest little meow ever.

Lots going on with the campaign! First, I'd like to welcome my new campaign manager, Cailey Jamison, who has already done a tremendous job in getting the campaign organized and ready for the remaining few weeks.

Second, we now have a Twitter account, please follow https://twitter.com/davyforD6 ... hopefully Elon keeps paying the bills until election day.

Third, yard signs are on the way. Message me with your address and we'll plant one in your yard.

Snowplow Names Election Results | City of Madison, City of Madison, Wisconsin 02/23/2023

Some people think we have too many elections. I don't. They're all important splitting them up throughout the year ensures that smaller offices downballot don't get overshadowed by bigger ones.

But maybe you missed this important contest:

Snowplow Names Election Results | City of Madison, City of Madison, Wisconsin The turnout was fantastic! We received well over 3,000 votes for each of the four pieces of equipment. We’d like to thank Wisconsin Salt Wise for hosting this election for us. And thank you one and all for participating in this election, from submitting names to voting.

02/22/2023

You still have a couple hours to vote (polls close at 8pm). It just started snowing and I’m told that’s lucky? Ward 40 represent! Thanks to all the poll workers holding it down today!

By now you've been told how important Tuesday's election is, but it's so important that you can stand being told one more time. I'm not on the ballot until April 4, but there is a statewide primary for State Supreme Court and Madison primaries for mayor and other alders.

Polls are open 7am - 8pm. If you happen to be in line when polls close, you can still vote. If you're feeling ill, you can do curbside voting. And of course you can register to vote at the polls.

I made the tough decision not to serve as Chief Inspector this spring due to my campaign, but I'll be back next year. On the plus side, I get to vote in person for the first time in my home ward!
