Abortion Rights Backed by Voters in Michigan, Kentucky, Vermont 11/09/2022

“Voters in Michigan, Kentucky, California and Vermont were on track to back ballot measures supporting reproductive rights on Tuesday, six months after the US Supreme Court eliminated the federal right to an abortion and sent the issue back to the states.”

Abortion is a safe, morally neutral medical procedure. It is also very popular!

Congrats to MI, KY, CA, and VT for protecting reproductive justice tonight. The fight continues.

Strike the ban, abortion on demand!

đź’śAbortion is a human right.

đź’śThe Turnaway Study, a landmark study about the impact of denying people wanted abortions, found that those who were denied an abortion were more likely to stay in contact with a violent part.

đź’śNobody should be denied the abortion care that they want or need.

đź’śThat's why we at have supported your right to an abortion for 50 years.

đź’śIf you want your dollars to go toward abortion care, donating to abortion funds is one of the best ways to make that happen.

đź’śWe have supported over 1,000 people in 2022 alone. Help us support even more people:

The Bodgery stands in solidarity with the artists that have been mistreated by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA). For months, the artists of the 2022 Wisconsin Triennial presentation have sought accountability from MMoCA without adequate response. In light of these events, the Bodgery is withdrawing from the MMoCA Gallery Night. We are acting as part of a community driven boycott and will post information for an alternate gallery night event in November in lieu of the MMoCA event. Today we are spotlighting Urban Triage, one of many local organizations joining us for this important outdoor event in support of abortion and reproductive justice.

From their website:
"Urban Triage, Inc. is on a mission to empower Black families while mobilizing community resources and distributing them to those most in need. At the same time, we engage systems in implementing systematic, sustainable, equitable, and clinically sound approaches to health behavior and prevention. We are poised to do this through education, community support services, and advocacy that systematically reduces and eventually works to eliminate barriers such as inadequate education, lack of access to resources, and class and health disparities.

Our goal is to promote positive health outcomes and reduce significant health disparities at the community level. We do this through meeting basic needs and then engaging communities through educational opportunities and effective advocacy at multiple levels. We stand in the gap for those most in need through advocacy, transformative education, and critical coordinated services between partner organizations, city officials, and community resources. Most critically, with the community's trust and track record to carry out the work."

is the only way.

Wampanoags today remember the Pilgrims’ entry to their homeland as a day of deep mourning, rather than a moment of giving thanks. For 50 years after the Mayflower landed, the alliance was tested by colonial land expansion, the spread of disease, and the exploitation of resources on Wampanoag land. Then, tensions ignited into war. Known as King Philip’s War, the conflict devastated the Wampanoags and shifted the balance of power in favor of the colonizers.

This is about as contrary to the Thanksgiving myth that one can get - The myth that friendly "Indians", unidentified by tribe, welcome the Pilgrims to America, teach them how to live in this new place, sit down to dinner with them and then disappear. That’s the story—it’s about Native people conceding to colonialism. It’s bloodless and in many ways an extension of the ideology of Manifest Destiny.

Today, the Wampanoag are still fighting against the dispossession of their land. Still fighting against forced assimilation. Still fighting to reclaim the Wôpanâak language.

Abortion is empowerment. Abortion is self determination. Abortion is love.

I Had an Abortion Simply Because I Wasn’t Ready. That’s Enough. 11/11/2021

“At age 32, my abortion gave me choice, autonomy over my own body, and opportunities in my career.

People have abortions for many reasons. In my case, I simply wasn’t ready. That’s it, and that’s good enough. I didn’t want to be a mother at that moment in my life, so I made a decision that was best for me and my relationship. I could afford to have that abortion. I also had the means to start my family without skipping a beat in my career. Millions of women do not have those luxuries, with many being forced into a situation they don’t want and are not ready for.

The truth is that banning abortion will not stop abortion, it just makes already vulnerable people’s lives more difficult. It stops safe abortion because, rest assured, wealthy people will still have access to abortion services. It is the poor who suffer.”

26 States Are Certain or Likely to Ban Abortion Without Roe: Here’s Which Ones and Why 11/09/2021

“If Roe were overturned or fundamentally weakened, 21 states have laws or constitutional amendments already in place that would make them certain to attempt to ban abortion as quickly as possible. Anti-abortion policymakers in several of these states have also indicated that they will introduce legislation modeled after the Texas six-week abortion ban.

By the time the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in the Mississippi case, there will be nine states with an abortion ban still on the books from before Roe v. Wade, 12 states with a trigger ban tied to Roe being overturned, five states with a near-total abortion ban enacted after Roe, 11 states with a six-week ban that is not in effect and one state (Texas) with a six-week ban that is in effect, one state with an eight-week ban that is not in effect and four states whose constitutions specifically bar a right to abortion. Some states have multiple types of bans in place.”

More activists who have had abortions are saying so out loud. Here's why 11/08/2021

“Telling personal abortion stories has increasingly become central to the abortion-rights movement in recent years.

There's a number of reasons why advocates believe this strategy might work. One is the hope that telling stories will normalize the procedure, making Americans more sympathetic.

There is evidence that many Americans underestimate how common abortion is. According to a 2016 Vox poll, for example, around half of Americans surveyed believed that fewer than 20% of American women will have an abortion in their lifetimes.

In fact, just under 1 in 4 women will have an abortion before age 45, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights.”

More activists who have had abortions are saying so out loud. Here's why Advocates for abortion rights used to commonly assert that the procedure should be "safe, legal and rare," but that motto has become deeply controversial as the movement tries to remove stigma.
