Earlier this month, the Healthy Minds Healthy Children team hosted its first-ever Consultant Institute. It was a great success with a terrific turnout of 24 invited attendees. Additionally, Dawn Yazzi conducted amazing and engaging sessions that covered topics including the role of consultants in IECMH, diversity within practices, and a tribal perspective on IECMH, cultural wisdom and behavioral health.
Some of the thoughtful considerations during the institute were:
1) How does this history of systemic oppression affect me as a helper?
2) What part of the child's/family's challenges come from systemic inequalities? (Angela Keyes - Tulane University)
3) What child are you holding with you today?
A warm and sincere "THANK YOU" to all attendees as well as some of our partners and contributors who helped make The Consultant Institute a success! Thank you to...
> Ho-Chunk Nation District 1 Community Center in Black River Falls for providing us with a beautiful space to gather, connect and learn.
> HMHC's organization partners for joining us: Children's Wisconsin, Brenda Flannary (Wisconsin Inter-Tribal Child Care Association/Northwest Connection Family Resources), and
> WI-AIMH's Beth Smetana's husband, John, who led attendees in an indigenous blessing/welcome to open the Institute
