We have had quite the rainfall this spring in Southwest Wisconsin, and while we welcome the increased precipitation compared to last years' drought conditions, excess rainfall can cause problems in our lawns and provide breeding grounds for mosquitos when water is allowed to stand for extended periods of time. 🦟

If you have an area in your yard where water accumulates during heavy rainfalls, you just might have the perfect spot to install a rain garden! A rain garden is simply a shallow depression in your yard that is planted with native wetland or wet prairie wildflowers and grasses that can withstand both wet and dry conditions. It is designed to naturally collect water that runs off from your roof or is discharged from your sump pump. 🦋🐝Many people participate in "no mow" or "low mow" May to help our native pollinators with habitat and early spring food sources. While there are varying opinions on this approach, one thing experts agree on is the best way to help native pollinators is to plant native plants!

At EC3, we not only plant trees, we also care for them to ensure they are healthy and happy little (or big) trees.

If you have any questions or concerns about your trees, our ISA Certified Arborist can perform a site visit to diagnose the problem. He will walk you through the best management practices to keep your trees healthy or decide if it is time to remove the tree.

If a tree needs to be removed, he can offer suggestions on which tree species are best to replace them with. EC3 technicians can then install replacement or additional trees.

Another successful week of prescribed burning for the EC3 crews on a wide variety of landscapes.

Prescribed fire can be an amazing land management tool. Spring burns remove old vegetation to make room for new growth. It shifts soil nutrients to a state more favorable to prairie species. Helps reduce the spread of invasive or undesirable species. It also uncovers the soil so it warms sooner, thus extending the growing season.
