Priests for an Apostolic Age Conference - The Evangelical Catholic Join us in Dallas January 24-26, 2023 to gain vision and tools to recharge your ministry and activate apostolic laity in your community.
Good conversations strengthen our relationships and help us hear the stories and hearts of our friends and family. Prompting conversation and listening well are pre-requisite skills for sharing our faith in Christ. Whether introverted or extroverted, we are all called to care for people by asking good questions and listening attentively. Pray about this; ask the Lord for courage and to open doors to authentic, meaningful conversations with the people in your life.
Apostolate comes from the word "apostle" meaning, "one who is sent." It means mission!
In a particular way, lay people have a mission to the world: it's where we live, work, study, play, and thrive. The laity is the part of the Body of Christ best positioned and able to be credible witnesses to those outside or on the fringes of the Church's life.
"Since the laity, in accordance with their state of life, live in the midst of the world and its concerns, they are called by God to exercise their apostolate in the world like leaven, with the ardor of the spirit of Christ." - Vatican II, Apostolicam actuasitatem (Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity)
Apostolates look like:
• Interceding for a friend or family member
• Listening attentively to a coworker and asking questions to get to know them better
• Showing someone how to pray with Scripture
• Going grocery shopping for an elderly neighbor and spending time with them
• Inviting neighbors into a small group to discuss Scripture and pray together
• Asking about someone's beliefs and experiences of faith and being genuinely curious about them
• Saying hi to people at the gym, coffee shop, church to make new connections
• Doing your work and chores well as an offering and witness to God
• And infinitely more!
"Each member of the lay faithful should always be fully aware of being a 'member of the Church' yet entrusted with a unique task which cannot be done by another and which is to be fulfilled for the good of all." - Saint John Paul II, Christifidelis laici (The Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People)

"The [Priests for an Apostolic Age] conference comes as priests are leading an exceptional time of transition, said conference keynote speaker Msgr. James Shea. 'The pastoral and evangelistic strategies that worked for a long time, under the influence of a prevailing culture and vision of Christendom, are falling short because the ground has shifted beneath us. … We are now in need of a new narrative vision as a Church, a vision of Apostolic Mission,' said Msgr. Shea."

Jason sat down for a conversation with Dr. Richard Ludwick, president of the University of St. Thomas, at the 12th Annual Napa Institute Conference in Napa Valley California. They talked about the importance evangelization and the shift happening in our churches today, instead of drawing people to an ever increasing number of church activities, to form parishioners to go out into the world to draw more people towards Christ.

Colleges and universities across the country are gearing up for the fall semester. Our campus ministry partners are in the midst of reaching out to students, new and returning, to bring them into deeper relationship with Jesus and love of his Church.
As we wrap up our summer of spiritual support and sacrifice, we're asking you to share your prayers and spiritual offerings so that our campus partners know just how deep and wide their support network is.
We will send your prayers and offerings to each of our campus ministry partners. They'll know that they're not alone as they put out into deep waters, and that you are standing alongside them as they empower young Catholics to be salt and light in the world.
We're so blessed to have Mari Pablo bringing her joy, strength, and personal witness to our ministry partners and our team!

The Church has grown in conceptual clarity about the vocation of the laity, but do we have an adequate imagination for how to live that vocation beyond involvement in “parish life?” Do we know how to offer formation calibrated to form secular professionals, home makers, retirees, and others in the way of Catholic life in the middle of the world? Peter Andrastek explores these issues in his newest article in Church Life Journal: https://bit.ly/3t5XzAp
