Beautiful Asian lilies on display!
Meet this summer’s fabulous team of display garden interns!
Katarina Testerman is a senior horticulture student. She is interested in conservation of plant biodiversity and improving fruit and vegetable production to lessen the environmental impact while still keeping it profitable for farmers. In the garden you will most likely find her engaged in combat with our pesky Japanese beetle foes or taking a moment to capture a photo of Jimmy (our resident hawk) flying overhead!
Grace Puc is a returning intern finishing her second summer with us here at the station. She is a fourth year environmental sciences student with a focus in sustainable agriculture. Grace is most passionate about tackling the issues of food waste and food insecurity by using the problems to combat one another. Her favorite activity in the garden is harvesting produce, but while she doesn’t love to w**d she can’t pass a bed without picking the rogue lambs quarter, so most often she is preoccupied with this.
Sofia Weinstein is a rising senior double majoring in agricultural and applied economics and plant pathology. She is interested in using science and economics to find sustainable solutions to today’s agricultural problems while benefiting local economies, cultures and the environment. In the garden you will find her in the Afrodiasporic garden trellising the tomatoes!
The West Madison Station has had a busy summer harvesting produce from okra in our Afro-diaspora plots to table grapes (and soon - wine grapes too!).
