Overture's Kids in the Rotunda

Overture's Kids in the Rotunda is a FREE community program for kids and families the Madison area. Free 45-minute performances at 9:30am and 1pm.

The 1pm performance will be American Sign Language interpreted. Please call 608.258.4447 if you need to be seated within sight of the interpreter or have other access needs to discuss. Sensory kits and wobble seats are available. Here are some tips to help you plan your attendance:

Wow! What a great wrap to our summer sessions! As we look ahead to the quickly approaching season, we hope that you can join us this Thursday, August 15, starting at 4pm at Madison Children's Museum for our first-ever Kids in the Rotunda Season Announcement Party!
We will kick off the evening with a scavenger hunt, followed by the official season announcement, and ending with some groovy tunes brought to us by DJ Nick Nice. Admission is free at the museum every Thursday from 4-8pm, including this event.
Can't make it? Not to worry- we are publicly announcing the season on our website and Facebook at 6pm on August 15!

Our last Kids in the Rotunda of the summer is approaching this Saturday, August 10. Join us and Son del Atlantico at 2pm at UW Memorial Union Terrace!
Son del Atlantico is an Afro-Colombian music band that plays the genres of traditional Colombian music including the rhythms of cumbia, chandé, cumbion, vallenato and porro fused with funk, rock and reggae.

Please note that in the case of poor weather, the performance will still take place, but will be right inside at The Rathskeller!

Madison Mystery Tour is thrilled to play Beatles music for the whole family at the Verona Senior Center. Join us for this fun show of Fab Four hits next Tuesday, August 6 at 11 am!
Madison Mystery Tour is a local ensemble dedicated to performing the entire Beatles catalog. The group was established in 2012 and has played numerous times to sold-out audiences at key venues and festivals in Madison and around the state.

With his guitar, tap shoes, and distinct baritone, Duke Otherwise performs a hilarious, charming and interactive musical program for all ages. His original songs are bursting with clever wordplay and fun ideas relatable to both kids and adults. Be ready to dance, laugh, volunteer, and to have your spontaneous suggestion be added to the show!
This show is free to attend and museum admission during the performance will be waived!

Join us for a fun-filled evening at Madison Children's Museum for the first-ever Kids in the Rotunda Season Announcement Party! Participate in the scavenger hunt and search for performers around the museum before our official announcement at 5:15pm. Then put on your dancing shoes for a dance party with DJ Nick Nice! Museum admission is free during the event as well as any Thursday evening from 4-8pm.

This Friday 7/26 at 11am, join us with Fox & Branch at Baraboo Children's Museum!
A Fox and Branch show is a fun and interactive time for children and families. The duo performs traditional and original songs on guitar, fiddle, banjo and washboard. The focus of every show is on involving the audience in singing, dancing and helping make up new words to songs. Fox & Branch always have a good time when they perform a show, and they do their best to make sure everyone else has a good time, too!
Please note that this performance will take place outside in a covered space. The performance is free to attend, and normal museum admission applies.

Don't forget that our shark coloring contest is still going on to guard next year's Rotunda stairs! Please turn in your submission by the end of the day, Saturday, August 10 (our last summer Kids in the Rotunda performance at Memorial Union Terrace).

Happy Summer, my friends! We're back in the Rotunda this Friday, June 21, for Make Music Madison with Tom Pease and Stuart Stotts! Please note that there is only one performance at 1 PM, but come early to see our other Make Music Madison performers from 10 AM-1 PM outside of Overture!

Tom Pease and Stuart Stotts have been singing with and for kids and families for a combined total of over 75 years. Although they mostly perform separately they are always delighted to have the opportunity to work together. You can expect lots of laughter, singing, moving, and participation in their concert. Tom and Stuart have three recordings together and more than ten on their own. They have worked all over the world, and are happy to be at the Rotunda, which feels a little bit like home.

Hello friends! What an awesome last weekend of our regular Kids in the Rotunda season! We are so excited to launch our summer sessions this weekend with The Jerry Ensemble on Saturday, May 4 on the Rotunda Stage! There is only one performance at 10am, so make sure to arrive early!

The Jerry Ensemble will be presenting Disney's Winnie the Pooh KIDS: a timeless story about friendship and adventure based on the beloved characters of A.A. Milne and the 2011 Disney animated feature film. Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit, and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson!

Tomorrow, April 25, join Overture Center at the Remake Learning Days: Badgerland's Free Family Night Celebration! This event will take place at the Madison Children's Museum from 4pm-8pm, no registration required.

Don't forget to come to the last Kids in the Rotunda of the season, The Lullaby Project, on Saturday, April 27! Also happening this weekend is the Crazylegs Classic run, starting downtown at 10 AM. Please keep in mind that parking will be limited with the race and the Farmer's Market.

Join local musicians and teaching artists for a very special day of sharing songs created for the little ones in your life, this Saturday, April 27, for our last Kids in the Rotunda of the regular 2023/24 season! Ranging from funny to sweet, calming to danceable and silly to empowering, the concert will include a range of musical styles and audience interaction featuring lullabies written with a local parent as part of Overture’s The Lullaby Project.

Their goal is to teach, preserve, and perform the ancient art of Taiko drumming, a form of traditional Japanese musical expression that combines mental discipline and physical demand.

Our friends from Madison Ballet will be back at the Overture this weekend!

"Originally created in 1841, "Giselle" has since become a favorite for audiences around the world, with the second act being one of the most emotionally driven works in the classical repertory of ballet. This new production will be choreographed by Ja' Malik after Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, and set to the heart-wrenching music of Adolphe Adam. "Giselle" is a story about heartbreak and the redemptive power of love and forgiveness.

TIMELESS will be a performance like no other. In the setting of the regal Capitol Theater, come to experience timeless classics and new contemporary ballets in this mixed repertory program showcasing the artistic breadth and technical capabilities of Madison Ballet. Happy Tuesday, friends! Who was able to catch the eclipse yesterday?
This Saturday, April 13, we welcome back Angela Puerta to the Rotunda Stage! Angela Puerta incorporates Latin beats, Colombian folkloric music and other familiar songs in both English and Spanish for kids to sing along. Kids dance and further explore a wide variety of Afro-Latino songs while having fun. It is an interactive show with opportunities for the kids to play maracas, shakers, tambourines and more!

Happening now until April 16 is our food & diaper drive with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin! Please consider donating non-perishable items next time you are at the Overture Center!

Starting next Wednesday, April 3-Tuesday, April 16, Overture Center will be hosting a food and diaper drive in partnership with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin! Please consider donating nonperishable food items to help families in the area in need! We will have one barrel set up in the Rotunda Stage area, and another at the Henry St. entrance.

This Saturday, March 30, Madison Ballet returns to the Rotunda Stage for an “off-stage and personal” look at the development of a ballet dancer. Presenting advanced students and trainees from the School of Madison Ballet, audience members have an up close experience of a ballet class warm up, barre practice, center floor work, and choreography rehearsal. Happy first day of Spring, everyone!

This Saturday, March 23, we welcome back a Kids in the Rotunda favorite, Tom Pease, who engages children with imaginative songs, humor and full audience participation. Families around the world love his recordings, especially on long car trips! You never know what might happen in a Tom Pease show but the power of reading, the universal language of song and the healing effects of laughter are all messages found throughout his performance.

Also happening on Saturday, we will be holding yoga sessions with little om BIG OM at 10:15am and 11:45am in Wisconsin Studio!
