We are honored to have brought this project to life with our Client Ardent, along with our incredible team that includes Kast Construction, HED Design, ONM&J, MiGre Engineers, and eda Consultants. We look forward to the end of July and the Southeast Building Conference Awards Gala!
The construction of The Whitby Birmingham is almost complete! Located in central Alabama, this multifamily community stands out with a sophisticated English Tudor aesthetic, adding timeless charm to the area.
The Whitby features a stunning courtyard, anchored by three pavilions showcasing beautiful exposed wood elements. This central gathering place blends rustic charm with modern comfort, offering residents a serene spot to relax and socialize.
Our core purpose is focused on designing impactful spaces that enhance the way people live, work, and play, and The Whitby is an embodiment of that philosophy. It’s an impeccable fusion of classic design and contemporary amenities, providing an exceptional living experience in Birmingham.
One of our recently-opened developments is 19 South Apartments, located at the northern end of Kissimmee. 19 South is only a half-mile, 10-minute walk to the Tupperware SunRail Station, and is an important piece of the growth around Central Florida’s public transit system. It’s one of several CBA-designed projects that contribute to building up the cores around SunRail, and we take great pride in our responsibility to create neighborhoods with smart principles that can sustainably grow.
As designers of human-scale communities, we understand the importance of creating spaces for natural interaction and relaxation. Every amenity at 19 South is designed to elevate the lifestyle of the resident, from the resort-style pool to the luxe lounge area, with an inviting ambiance where neighbors can unwind after a long day and socialize. With a designated pet spa, an expansive walking trail, and green spaces for furry friends to roam, it's a great place for residents and their four-legged companions to call home.
Exceptional design is about more than aesthetics – it's about enhancing the way people live, work, and play.
At CBA, we utilize a number of construction materials and techniques in our work as architects and planners. One of those is precast concrete: strong, versatile, and able to achieve diverse finishes for aesthetic appeal. Our team recently visited Gate Precast in Jacksonville, where we had an excellent discussion about their durable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. In the collaborative disciplines of architecture and construction, it’s so important for us to continuously work with our partners and consultants to ensure we’re doing everything we can to create impactful, vibrant communities.
Did you know that today is National Mural Day? May 7th, 2019 marked the inaugural National Mural Day, a celebration of the world’s oldest and most public visual art form. Artwork is intrinsic to a community's identity, imbuing structure with personality and texture.
Designing spaces with the integration of artwork is pivotal to determining the user’s experience. How will they feel? What will attract their attention, guide them through, make them pause and think? As designers, it’s important for us to consider how art will impact the overall experience and ambiance of the environments we create.
The CBA team is at the Interface Student Housing conference in Austin this week, and we'd love to meet with you! If you're ready to create amazing student communities, reach out to Cristian, Mary, or Martin and let's get started.
Community integration is a fundamental key to our design approach. The scale and placement of our buildings must be respectful, complementing the surrounding neighborhood’s architectural character and lifestyle atmosphere.
Our Student Housing developments are designed to seamlessly integrate within their surrounding communities, while making them stronger. Walkability is supported with easily accessible pathways linking to local trails, balanced with thoughtfully incorporated green spaces. To build further connections, we incorporate spaces for convenient access to local mass transit systems.
By thinking with urban design principles, we positively shape the fabric of our cities and create vital, long-lasting communities. Florida
When it comes to modern student housing design, striking the proper balance between academic, social, and relaxation needs is crucial to facilitate a life of enrichment.
Ample study zones should range from quiet spots for individuals to larger areas for group dialogue. Communal spots like clubhouses, green spaces, and cafés encourage engagement among students. Comprehensive fitness suites, pools, and recreation areas enable residents to focus on their health and well-being while recharging their batteries.
At CBA, we’re committed to reimagining the student lifestyle, crafting a thoughtfully curated blend of amenities within our communities that enhance the educational journey.
We’ll see you at the upcoming InterFace Student Housing conference in Austin, Texas! This event is a must-attend for anyone involved in the student housing industry, and we can't wait to connect, collaborate, and exchange insights with fellow industry leaders.
Yesterday, our office had a blast with our very own Easter egg hunt! We scoured every corner, finding eggs hidden in unexpected places—between books, among décor, on light fixtures and even nuzzled in a pot. Within each egg was a prize, and a select few found a golden ticket to compete for a grand prize.
At CBA, our workplace isn't just for work—it's a place for creativity, innovation, and fun! Whether brainstorming in the boardroom or sharing laughs in the break room, there's always excitement around every corner.
We believe in the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when we share our ideas openly. Pin-up sessions are more than just presentations. They're gatherings where ideas come to life, where feedback flows freely, and where creativity arises. These sessions are integral to our process, shaping our projects and ensuring that every detail is carefully considered.
Trinity Exchange is a sophisticated, resort-inspired multifamily development that offers an ideal home to complement the distinctive lifestyle of its residents. The community was designed simultaneously alongside its sister property, The Retreat at Trinity, a Senior Living apartment complex next door. Together, the two provide valuable housing options that span multiple phases in residents’ lives.
The stylish Trinity Exchange is comprised of 228 units spread across seven 3-story buildings overlooking a central plaza. The plaza is home to the clubhouse, pool amenities, and a large green space with walking paths. Parking is distributed along the perimeter of the site as surface parking, along with detached garages. This thoughtful placement of parking resources combined with a site plan that encourages neighborly interaction creates the feeling of a pleasant yet active village environment.
IDignity is an amazing nonprofit here in Central Florida that helps citizens obtain proof of identity, which opens up access to healthcare, education, housing, and employment. CBA is proud to have been a longtime supporter of the organization, and we’re thrilled to see them take their next steps into a permanent home. It’s an incredible inspiration to not only witness how far IDignity has come, but to get a glimpse into their exciting future as well!

At CBA Architects, we always look for ways to help out in our own backyard. That’s why, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we partnered with Lake Brantley High School to conduct a holiday food drive. The essence of the holiday is making room at the table and sharing with your neighbors, and those values also happen to be pretty important to why we do what we do. We are forever grateful to our incredible Clients and Collaborators who work with us to create vibrant communities and impact lives together.
Our office will be closed November 23-24 to enjoy time with family and friends. From all of us at CBA, we hope your Thanksgiving is joyous.
Today we're spotlighting one of the building elevations for Auden Gainesville, developed with our Client, DMG Investments. The industrial architecture style incorporates brick as an accent material along with stucco, fiber cement panels, and metal panels in limited areas. By mixing our materials, the building's forms are defined and its character comes through, while retaining its constructability. A visually compelling building that's also cost effective? We'd call that a success.
In just 10 days, we’ll be at InterFace Multifamily Southeast 2023! The event on November 30th offers a wealth of industry information and insight, discussion, and networking, all focused on apartment markets in the Southeast United States. Make sure you say hello to our own Cristian Oquendo, AIA, President + Director of Design, Matt Charlan, Principal + Director of Marketing & Business Development, and Martin Lehr, Principal + Director of Quality Assurance, who will all be in attendance. Cristian will be speaking as well, and we’ll be announcing his schedule as we get closer to the event. We hope to see you there!

The Ivy Residences at Health Village stands as a vital urban infill apartment community that caters to Orlando’s population of diverse professionals. The site runs parallel to Interstate 4 and straddles two city blocks, bisected by a small street which serves as the primary access to the structured parking garage. The Ivy is comprised of two structures connected by a pedestrian bridge, and its thoughtful placement at the rear of the property preserves the open ambiance of the two city blocks while shielding the interstate from view.
Marea Apartments is a 300-unit multifamily community in Naples, Florida, designed with our Client, Johnson Development Associates. With an emphasis on supporting the active lifestyle of its residents, Marea was designed to maximize its amenity package and take advantage of its South Florida Gulf Coast location.
Marea exemplifies the transformative, positive impact that our placemaking philosophy has on communities. Prior to its construction, the site formerly housed a defunct shopping plaza, but today the attractively-designed buildings provide much-needed housing and added vitality to the neighborhood.
