Recently former Manchester Mayor Robert Baines and MHA Director of Education Kristy Ellsworth addressed the Leadership Greater Manchester (LGM) class of 2024 during their History Day outing at Gill Stadium.
But this view looks familiar...
This is one of many view of spectators watching a sporting event in the grandstands at Textile Field, possibly during the opening on September 8, 1913.
The sporting field located on Beech Street, Manchester started as Varick Park in1894, then Textile Field between 1913-1922. The field was sold to the city in 1922 and renamed Manchester Athletic Field and then renamed Gill Stadium in the 1970s.
We were honored to have a visit today from Mayor Ramon Pascual Gomez of Pedro Brand city of the Dominican Republic. It was a pleasure giving him and his cabinet members a tour of the museum and sharing the history of Manchester with them! Thank you to Manchester, NH Mayor's Office for coordinating their visit!

Trivia Tuesday!
Do you recognize this ceiling?
It is an interior view of the Strand Theatre on Hanover Street (former Opera House, 1881-1986). This view shows the chamfered ceiling over the auditorium with frescoes.
It is with very heavy hearts that we let our followers know of the passing of our colleague and dear friend Christine (Chrissy) Freitas. Chrissy was the bookkeeper for the Manchester Historic Association for nearly ten years. In that time, she became a bright spot for our staff in the hustle and bustle of the day to day.
Chrissy was a wise and kind coworker, a steady, levelheaded presence and a faithful friend to the organization and its employees. You could always count on her for her calming nature and quick sense of humor. The thing we will miss most about Chrissy was her infectious smile and all the laughter we shared over the years. She led by example and truly embodied a life led by love and faith.
Please join us in mourning the loss of a dear colleague and friend. We extend our prayers, well wishes and sympathy to her husband Brian and her mother Mary, as well as all the people that loved her so well.
