This page shares the many initiatives in which the Turner Chapel AME Church Education Ministry engaged during the period 2007 - 2021.

Congratulations to all of our students who will begin the next phase of their lives after high school.
As students (and parents) receive college admissions decisions, students will need to manage their disappointment. With over 23,000 high schools, there are over 46,000 valedictorians and salutatorians in the pool of applicants; 5-star athletes; National Merit Scholars; students with perfect SAT/ACT scores, and thousands of exceptional students with extraordinary gifts and talents in art, music, dance, and poetry in the applicant pool. Not to mention the students who have had a significant impact on their schools and communities through their advocacy and service. No student is guaranteed admission anywhere, so every student everywhere must manage their disappointment and maximize whatever opportunities present themselves. Ultimately, your mindset, temperament, and faith will take you farther than your grades, test scores, or sense of entitlement.

TCC Striving for Excellence Ministry The Striving for Excellence Ministry is the educational ministry for Turner Chapel AME Church.
To work hard enough to claim the title, valedictorian, provides the opportunity to publicly affirm your faith and to be an example of what God can do and how your faith sustains you. We are so proud that Juliana used her opportunity to speak life into the lives of all of those who were present and to affirm God's agape love, even to those who have ridiculed her Mexican heritage.
Acknowledging those students who will be attending college on full scholarships does not diminish those who were not awarded full scholarships, no more than acknowledging those who are going to college diminishes those who chose military, trade school, or employment pathways. God has a plan and purpose for all of our children.
Congratulations PAIGE PIPER!!!
The PEARL Foundation, Inc. salutes the Class of 2022. These are our success stories! We are so proud of you and wish you the best on your college journey! Howard University
While the exceptional achievements of our 2022 Marcus Awardee, TaRetta Bright, were not announced at Sunday's Graduation Celebration Worship Service, you should know that TaRetta earned: 4X Marcus Awardee; YPD Vice-president; College Cohort Youth Leadership Board; National Honor Society; and Yale Young Global Scholar. All of which earned a full scholarship to North Carolina A&T Honors College!
Congratulations to our cohort students and church members who were recognized in today's Turner Chapel AME Church High School Graduation Ceremony. It was not announced that Justin will be attending Georgia Tech on a full scholarship as a Georgia Zell Miller Scholar and Georgia Tech Gold Scholar. Also, TaRetta will be attending the North Carolina A&T Honors College on a full scholarship as a NC A&T Alumni Scholarship recipient. As Education Ministry Leaders, the reason that my wife and I created the annual Turner Chapel AME Church High School Graduation Celebration Worship Service in 2007 was to celebrate the work of our youth across the areas of academics, leadership, and service that resulted in their full college scholarship opportunities and to inspire the youth coming behind them to pursue "Excellence." Justin and TaRetta continue this legacy.
Congratulations to FSD3 Cohort student and Lake City High School junior, Jayla Jones, for being selected as one of 5 students from throughout South Carolina as writing contest winners. Jayla, a member of Rev. Dr. Yolanda Davis' discussion group, adds to her impressive list of accomplishments (Yale Young Global Scholar; QuestBridge College Prep Scholar; Blogger; Section Leader of the Marching Band; and founding member of her school's National English Honor Society). Like the other high school juniors in Rev. Dr. Yolanda's discussion group, Jayla is intentional in her pursuit of exceptionality!
While the national average for students attending college on full scholarships is less than 2 percent, 44 percent of our Cohort Class of 2022 were offered full college scholarships...Give God Some Praise!
Congratulations Justin and TaRetta...
One of our undocumented students has received a full scholarship to a highly selective liberal arts college valued at over $320,000 over 4 years. Another student has received a full scholarship to an HBCU valued at over $100,000 over 4 years. For both students, all that matters is that they will be attending college on a full scholarship, graduate debt free, and each will navigate their respective spaces knowing that God opened a door and now they only need to appreciate the blessing and maximize the opportunity.
We have so many children living in lower income households who are top academic students. If we could be more churches to embrace the idea of supporting the college-bound aspirations of our children, guiding them into full scholarships, and eliminating student loan debt that would truly be a miracle that would transform entire communities.
Congratulations to TCC member, Justin Cleckley, and the Cleckley family. Justin had already been selected as a Gold Scholar at Georgia Tech, Trustee Scholar at Xavier University of Louisiana, and offered admission to the Honors College at UGA. Now, Justin has been selected as a Meyerhoff Scholar, the program that former cohort student, Samuel Patterson went through on his way to becoming a Rhodes Scholar. I like the sound of that, "Justin Cleckley - Rhodes Scholar."
Congratulations to Kaylie and Justin, our two newest UMBC - Meyerhoff Scholars. Both students have been offered multiple full scholarship opportunities and are blessed to have many college and scholarship choices. Check back on May 1โCollege Decision Dayโto see where they chose to attend.
Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony
Cohort student, Faith Kumi (University of Chicago), shares her faith, together with other high school seniors from Marietta High School.
'God knew exactly what he was doing': Marietta High seniors share spiritual reflections in graduation season MARIETTA โ Marietta High School seniors and their families gathered at Marietta First Baptist Church Sunday for fellowship and worship to close out the school year and to celebrate graduation.
Re-post of Mychal Wynn's post, "God rewards those who stand in the gap for his children. Our reward is sharing in the success of our students. Our 2017 Turner Chapel AME Church Cohort student, Samuel Patterson, describes his journey through our program and how God used the village to guide him into UMBC. Only God knew that Sam would be placed on a trajectory to becoming a Rhodes Scholar. Loren, from our 2018 Crossroads for Teens Cohort, also shares how the cohort guided him toward the top-ranked liberal arts college in the U.S."
While we have retired from the TCC Education Ministry, we have not retired from our ministry in expanding college access and reducing student loan debt for students and families. We celebrate 38 students, 16 of whom will be attending college on full need- or merit-based scholarships. We celebrate Turner high school students, Kristiana Anderson, Khalil Felder, and Terrell White; and college graduates Kimberly Hadaway and Alexis Mitchell, who participated in our program as high school students. Give God Some Praise!!
