Please celebrate the wonderful capstone projects by our Senior Studio Art & Graphic Design this Friday, 1/19 4:30pm-6:30pm on the 3rd floor gallery in Hermann Fine Arts Center. Snacks and treats provided :)
The seniors had fun having their last critique on their capstone projects before they finish and install them next month.
We welcomed 127 students to the Art Department for Fine Art Visit Day! They learned about art history, exquisite corpses, zines and the power of doodling! 🙌

Design4All is a resource developed by Graphic Design Professor Sara Rosenstock to help students use visual communication effectively on research projects, such as presentations and posters. Topics covered are formatting, color use and data visualization—just in time for All Scholar’s Day!

Created to make using graphic design techniques easy to apply, this project is in the draft stage and Prof. Rosenstock is encouraging all students and faculty to provide constructive feedback to help make the resource as effective and accessible as possible.

We were excited that Max (class of 2020) came and checked out the Deem Design Center today. Though he was jealous it wasn’t available when he was a student, he got to make a cool magnet on the Glowforge.

In Design Studio Workshop (GRPH 450) students learned how to design pins and use shrinky d***s and resin to make prototypes!

The Information Design class recently visited the MC Special Collections, home to thousands of historic documents. We had a lot of fun sorting through all of the old yearbooks and photographs that we will be using for the next project that focuses on the rich history of Marietta.

The annual Letterpress Workshop happened today for the Typography class. Students got to learn about the history of printing type and designed their own poster. We’ve had a hiatus for the past two years and it was awesome to welcome them back.

HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN OUTSIDE a solo exhibition by Erika Hess. The exhibition runs Feb 3 through April 14 with an artist reception and gallery talk on Fri. March 18 from 5-6:30p.

The students in Professor Z's ART343: Time Based Art class are having a lot of fun exploring various approaches to animation. Students learned to work with stop motion, rotoscoping, and frame by frame animation techniques. Here we see a class collaboration where each student had to animate a transformation from one monster drawing to another.

We finally got to celebrate the opening of the Deem Design Center with our students, alumni, faculty and staff. We’ve been working hard getting the space and samples ready. Visitors got to see their drawings etched into coasters and phone stands and enjoy making something!
Today in Professor Powell's drawing class things got a little crazy! Students were asked to use charcoal on sticks to practice different kinds of line variation in their drawings. Really cool exercise and it looks like a lot of fun.
Say hello to the accidental denim crew. Professor Powell, Professor Z, and Professor Nash all showed up today in denim over shirts. So much for "on wednesdays we wear pink" because in this department on thursdays we wear denim. 🤦♀️🤷♀️
