Are you struggling with chronic pain that disrupts your daily life, but want a non-invasive alternative to injections? EPAT could be for you!

EPAT, aka radial shock wave therapy, is an advanced, highly effective, non-invasive, treatment method which uses high-energy acoustic pressure waves to accelerate the body’s healing process in order to regenerate damaged tissue, reduce pain, and restore mobility.

Typical treatment plans range between 4-6 sessions, though beneficial effects are often experienced after only 1 or 2 treatments.

Benefits of EPAT/Radial Shockwave Therapy

91% success rate (as per clinical studies)
Non-invasive
No anesthesia required
No risk of infection
No scarring
No downtime
Over 80% patient satisfaction
Cost effective
Faster, easier healing
FDA cleared technology

EPAT can successfully treat many types of conditions, including plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder pain, patellar tendonitis, knee pain, and more.

At Well Body Basics, we provide a variety of treatment options for musculoskeletal pain throughout the body. Our doctors have many years of experience with techniques such as Active Release, Graston, myofascial release, cupping, joint manipulation, and shock wave therapy. We take a multifaceted approach to help you get out of pain and back to your life.

Pain is there for a reason - it tells us something is wrong. Continually working through pain sets us up for further damage and greater injury. It's usually much easier and quicker to resolve issues that are caught and addressed early, rather than allowing them to progress and worsen before making changes or seeking treatment.

Have a look at the physical activity recommendations, and know that these are the minimums.
Are you and your family meeting or exceeding these recommendations? If not, it's time to make some changes. Activity doesn't have to be done all at once. If you struggle to find a chunk of time, break it up into smaller blocks and pepper it through the day. Even a few minutes of movement at a time adds up and goes a long way to improving your health and well being.

Why is posture important?
When our bodies are in proper alignment, we minimize stress on the muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels. When aligned, the muscles are able to efficiently generate force, the diaphragm is able to descend, the lungs are able to expand, and fluids can circulate more freely. In other words, the body will function at its best.

Ideally, we want:
Head balanced over spine & between shoulders, with chin slightly tucked, & eyes forward
Shoulders rolled open so shoulder blades slide gently down and back
Lower front ribs dropped down and in
Neutral pelvis (no excessive tilt or tuck)
Knees aligned approximately over second toes
Weight evenly distributed between heels & ball of feet

Next time you're standing around, start thinking about these things, and see if you can make some small shifts towards better posture. Small changes can make a huge impact.

Two different studies published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medicine Association in 2017 & 2019, concluded that radial shock wave therapy (aka extracorporeal pulse activation technology/EPAT) is superior to corticosteroid injection for the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis. Patients receiving EPAT treatment experienced significantly greater pain reduction as compared to corticosteroid injection. The EPAT patients also maintained the improvements in follow up testing 1 & 6 months after treatment, whereas the injection patients did not.
Contact our office to find out if EPAT is right for you.

As proud sponsors of the St. Andrew Rowing Club, we wanted to share this great fundraiser they're doing. They're selling digital vouchers redeemable at any Tidal Wave Auto Spa location for their signature Graph-X4 car wash (retails for $30). The voucher costs only $20, a 33% discount, and SA will get $10 for each one sold! It's a win-win!

Technology is amazing. It can make life simpler, faster, more efficient, & more entertaining, but it's not without consequences. When the head is brought forward and the neck bends, the force on the cervical spine increases tremendously.

This anterior head position can cause long term damage and result in:
Headaches
Back Pain
Muscle Damage
Nerve Damage
Spinal Disc Herniation
Spinal Disc Compression
Decrease in Spinal Curve
Loss of Lung Volume
Gastrointestinal Problems
Onset of Early Arthritis

It's important to keep the head balanced over the spine. Try holding the phone higher, rather than dropping the head down.
Regular adjustments can help alleviate the symptoms of the repetitive stress placed on your neck and spine from smartphone and other electronic device use.

03/10/2023

Rowing is a fantastic sport that provides full body exercise and builds strength and endurance.
The repetitive motion, however, can lead to some overuse injuries. The most common injuries involve the back and can create mild, moderate, or even severe back pain. Maintaining an exercise regimen of strengthening and mobility work is very important, and proper technique is essential. In the long run, no amount of strengthening and stretching will make up for poor technique.

Sitting too much can be detrimental to your physical and mental health. Excessive sitting, especially in one position, causes stiffness, decreased range of motion, headaches, and aches & pains throughout your body. It's associated with a higher incidence of anxiety and depression, and increases your risk of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, varicose veins, and even some types of cancer.
A little bit of movement fairly frequently and throughout the day goes a long way. Simple things such as changing positions, and doing some basic neck and shoulder rolls for just a few seconds 3 times and hour can have a huge positive impact.
