Upper school art students took a walk in the forrest last Thursday to find materials for a natural element sculpture project. The artists are only allowed to use foraged objects to create a natural sculpture of their choosing. We examined the repetition of God’s design in nature, and discussed how our creator uses repeating themes and patterns in all that he has made. Projects are in progress and can be viewed at the First Semester Art Show later this fall.

“Festina Lente,” a Latin phrase which means to make haste slowly. Check out Mr. Edwards’ latest post on The Bloghaven (and in the Knightly News) to read how our journey to becoming a singing school has been one marked with both urgency and patience, diligence, and time.

Art classes began at our Lower and Upper schools today! We are excited to explore the beauty of God in our world and create some amazing art this year!

Art classes at Stonehaven are integrated with the subjects that students are learning throughout their other classes. This means that as students learn about the ancient time period, they are also learning about ancient art or are creating art using similar methods and mediums.

Stonehaven thanks the Summer Crew for their hard work all summer to improve, repair, and beautify our campuses. These student employees, under the direction of Michael Perkerson, painted, cleaned carpets, landscaped, moved furniture and boxes, and many other things for the entire summer. It was a joy to have them on campus, and we look forward to appreciating the fruits of their labor!

Stonehaven Teachers, Staff, and Board had a great week at the Annual Association of Classical Christian Schools conference, held in Atlanta this year.

We were recognized on stage for achieving accreditation with ACCS, Dr. Hughes delivered a workshop to a packed room of engaged teachers, four Stonehaven students served at the conference, and our volleyball team started the week by helping stuff all the vendor bags.

We are grateful for the opportunity to network with other classical and Christ-centered educators, get inspired in our work, and spend time together.

We are excited and grateful to have Thomas Carrenard joining Stonehaven's administrative team to serve as Associate Head of School!

Thomas served as ACCA's second Head of School from 2007 to 2010. Current Head of School Brett Edwards wrote to our parents and teachers: "I had the honor of being personally hired by Thomas in 2008. As you can imagine, I consider it a truly unbelievable and unexpected honor to hire Thomas as he returns to the Stonehaven community. Thomas is a faithful, God-fearing man. He possesses a deep love for the Lord and has committed his life to serving God and loving others through his work. During his tenure as ACCA’s Head of School, his fervent passion for the school was defined by a devotion to our classical Christian philosophy, a culture of joy, the formation of loving relationships, and a season of remarkable growth. "

Join us in welcoming Mr. Carrenard and his family back to Stonehaven!

Congratulations to Pam Grote, this year's recipient of the Stonehaven Excellence in Teaching Award!

Mrs. Grote is celebrating 15 years of teaching at Stonehaven. Her 3rd grade class is challenging, but students finish with a sense of accomplishment for having met the challenges and enjoyed themselves along the way. She treats students with dignity and compassion while not compromising her high standards for academics and character. She is known for her faithfulness and devotion to students and parents. She is a lover of knowledge and seeks to teach her children to love truth and to see and appreciate what is beautiful. She has that perfect balance of being fun-loving and silly yet firm. She loves and is true to the classical method.

Congratulations, Mrs. Grote!

At Stonehaven, it is our goal to train our students to praise the Lord in music often and with skill.

From Beethoven to Mozart and many arrangements in between, the Stonehaven Opry: Lower School Instrumental Music Spectacular was a melodious showcase of musical instruments. 1st-3rd grade learn piano, 4th grade learns recorder, and 5th and 6th learn woodwinds, brass, or strings.

Special thanks to Megan Johnson, Stonehaven's Music teacher, North Metro Music Education's Vaughn Irby leading the band, and April Pettus leading the orchestra.
