Roper Beef and Cattle Co.
We're a first-generation South Poll cattle operation in Western Kentucky selling seedstock and high quality grass-fed beef. Us too.
Care about where your beef comes from? Our cattle graze from our grassy pastures onto your plate.
The only thing better than one surprise baby is two! We for sure thought #9 missed last year after losing her tail. We had happily moved her to our fall calving herd but looks like we were wrong! It’s been a wonderful few weeks on the farm celebrating summer and watching everything grow.
It’s been a busy week on the farm but it’s hard to complain when we welcomed a new heifer calf! 💚🐮 Our Serecia lespedeza is getting mature and we’ll be bushhogging it back this weekend. Mowing is a great way to control weeds before they go to seed in the summer time.
It’s hard not to love these warm summer mornings ☀️
Our coolers at Marion and Company are fully stocked with grass fed beef! We have ribeye, sirloin, roasts, filet, osso bucco, ground beef and patties. Looking for another cut? Feel free to reach out to us for our inventory list!
Nothing like an early morning walk with the girls 🤠🐮💕
Make sure to check out this month's Cow Country to read about our farm!

Be sure to stop by Marion and Company and pick up some of our grass-fed beef!
Our heifers certainly are enjoying these cooler morning temperatures. Soon, we’ll be sorting the girls into spring and fall calving herds and turning them out with our sire.
Good morning and happy Friday from the farm! ☀️
We've been working behind the scenes to get everything ready for when we launch our online shipping! If you can't tell, Caroline is a bit indecisive on picking logo color and hat combos!
We love these League-Legacy hats we got embroidered from RUIE Creative Boutique & Gift Shop! Which color combo is your favorite?
We’ve had a productive week on the farm, welcoming two new heifer calves and watching the grass explode from our 6” of rain.
On Friday, Caroline was fortunate enough to be invited to Greg Brann and River Cottage Farm to participate in a mentorship program aimed at increasing use of adaptive grazing practices by livestock producers. We’ll be sharing more as we work to continuously improve our herd and forages.
Happy Grazing!
We were honored to host our friends and colleagues from across the Commonwealth this week. The girls even blessed us with a new calf for our visitors.
I (Caroline) could not be more grateful for the UK Master Grazer team. I would have never guessed walking into grazing school in April 2023 would lead me here but am SO grateful it did. UK Forages >>>>
There’s been lots of barometric pressure changes here in Western KY over the last 24 hours… which has resulted in two new babies on the ground! We’re in the last few weeks of calving season and can’t wait to welcome the last few remaining calves to our herd.
Here are a few shots from around the farm last week! We worked our mama cows and calves, welcomed a new heifer calf to the farm and rotated the girls to some fresh new grass. Spring is just the best time of year.
Weve had a fun few days on the farm. Between checking babies and moving our bull, we’ve been busy getting everyone in till-top shape. The grass is growing, the birds are chirping, calves are on the ground and spring is here!
Life’s just better with some cows around 🐮🎶
Earlier this week we added South Poll six heifers to our herd from Redemption Creek Ranch. We appreciate Cody and Bethany letting us check out their place. Everyone looks great and is loving this spring weather!
We had a great Saturday moving the girls to new pasture and welcoming three new South Poll calves to the herd. We’re looking forward to the spring flush starting and moving the herd quickly to keep up with grass growth. Clearly, the girls are too!
It was a beautiful Easter afternoon to begin our spring rotation. The herd trotted straight to the bottom of the hill to begin grazing pastures we’ve been resting since November. We even found a new heifer calf, our second heifer born on Easter in a row. We hope everyone had a beautifully blessed Sunday!
Our herd matriarch, 9Z, greeted us with a cute bull calf this morning! She is Red Angus and is the mother, grandmother, great grandmother or great, great grandmother to almost every cow in our herd. Such a beautiful way to start the day!
A beautiful evening for some fresh grass 🌱☘️🌾🐮
Thursday kicked off calving season on the farm, and we welcomed a brand new 75% South Poll baldie bull to the herd! Our little farm crew was able to watch the calf be born before hopping on the school bus.
As luck would have it, our friends from UK Master Grazer were visiting and able to lend a helping hand tagging our newest farm member. We love this season on the farm.
Our freezers are stocked with fresh Kirk Farms’ chicken and Sutton Timber and Cattle’s grain-finished beef and our grass fed beef. We’ve also got a mess of farm fresh eggs. Over the next few weeks we’ll be adding local pork, lamb and goat to our display cases. Be sure to come by Marion and Company until 6 today or from 12-5 tomorrow to help us celebrate opening weekend!
When choosing a logo for our company, it was hard not to turn to our roots for inspiration. The Ropers are relatively new to the Commonwealth but have actively been involved in agriculture for more than 100 years.
Roper Brothers and Roper Growers Cooperative in Winter Garden, Florida may be a long way from Marion, Kentucky but their love of agriculture and passion for the land is strong in the family today 🧡🍊
While we are still a bit of a work-in-progress we have been hard at work getting ready to be a resource for local proteins at Marion and Company .
Make sure to stop by from 10-6 tomorrow for chicken from Phyllis McClure Kirk and Brigham Kirk at Kirk Farms and beef from both us and Sutton Timber and Cattle. We cant wait to see you there!
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes getting ready to bring grass-fed beef to your door… And we’re excited to announce we’re moving in to Marion and Company ! We have rented their old butcher shop with freezer and cooler space to use to store and ship our meats! We will also have refrigerated and freezer displays in the store to sell fresh, local protein and eggs.
Are you a local livestock producer or farmer looking to sell your meat or eggs? I would love to talk to you! You can text or call Caroline at 270-704-2254.
You can almost feel spring in the air today. The birds are singing, the sun is shining and we’re riding with the windows down while the herd enjoys some freshly unrolled hay.
In the next week we’ll be frost seeding on top of our unrolled hay, a technique where we depend on the natural movement of soil to start our seeds. This is a great low-input strategy for improving our pasture forages for the upcoming growing season.
It’s hard to believe we’re less than 6 weeks away from the kickoff of spring 2024 calving. We can’t wait to trade in hard frost for heavy dew.
Late season frosts are here and we’re hoping to use it to our advantage through frost seeding. When frost seeding, you rely on the natural movement of the soil and water through the freezing and thawing process to pull seeds into the ground for a quick and low-impact way to improve pasture. This area was hit hard by our herd’s hooves during our stormy winter and an area where we unrolled hay. Hopefully we can take advantage of this weather and will improve the quality of forage for grazing this spring!
Our newest calf found himself between his dam and sire this morning, setting up the perfect family photo.
Yesterday evening we were greeted by the sweetest surprise… our first South Poll calf bred right here on the farm. Welcome to the farm baby bull calf!
