The essential oil is steam distilled from the oleoresin of the copaiba tree which is tapped similar to the way maple syrup is harvested. We partner with local harvesting families that live along the Amazon River in Brazil. Each family takes care of several trees, a tradition that’s been fostered for generations.

By sourcing copaiba oleoresin for essential oil in the Amazonas, we support the livelihoods of at least 3,000 harvesters. Although harvesters had oleoresin buyers in the past, they weren’t guaranteed a fair market price for their product, and sales were irregular. Through doTERRA, these harvesters are now paid a fair, previously agreed upon price for their oleoresin regularly and reliably.

Journey with us to New Zealand, where Douglas Fir essential oil is sourced.

Commonly used as Christmas trees, Douglas Fir trees are native to North America, however they grow voraciously in New Zealand’s ecosystem, so much so the trees can overtake the land and crowd out native species of plants in the South Island. We harvest new growth and young Douglas Fir trees to help battle the negative environmental impact on New Zealand’s native plants and trees. By harvesting the trees when they are young—5 to 7 years old—it prevents the trees from getting to an age where they produce cones, which would exacerbate the problem further.

By sourcing Douglas Fir from New Zealand, we are striving to protect and preserve the native ecosystem of New Zealand. Without our work, the “wilding” or young Douglas Fir trees would continue to take over land and/or chemicals would be used to remove them, which could also impact other species. Instead, this provides a beautiful essential oil from what otherwise might have been waste product.

👑 Essential Oils

These essential oils are famous as being two of the three gifts of the Magi!

Not only do their chemistries vary greatly, but their resins are also distinctly different. It takes approximately half a pound of frankincense resin to create a 15 mL bottle of essential oil. It takes nearly three quarters of a pound of myrrh resin to create the same amount of essential oil. Myrrh essential oil has a smoky, dry scent, while Frankincense essential oil has a spicy and clean aroma.

In memory of those we lost. Also to many more BRP drives I get to enjoy. Autumn 🍂 is almost here.

While September 11 now holds important meaning for many of us as the day over two decades ago many lost their lives to the 9/11 attacks; on the Blue Ridge Parkway we also mark this date for another reason. On this day in 1935, construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway began near Cumberland K**b, North Carolina.

The darkness this date now holds for so many, also provides an opportunity to look for light. However you choose to commemorate this date, whether its giving back to your community or considering the ingenuity and vision it took to build the Blue Ridge Parkway, we can all look for ways to bring light into the world as a way to honor the victims and heroes of this day.
