Massapequa Fire Department

On May 25,1978 at 0006 hours the Bethpage Fire Department was alerted for a building fire at the Brothers 3 Pool Supply store located on Hempstead Turnpike and Hicksville Road. During the fire, Captain Joseph Dunn and Firefighter Robert Hassett were killed in the Line of Duty after explosions caused them to become disoriented off the hose line. The two were found the next morning huddled against each other. Captain Dunn and Firefighter Hassett both of Engine & Ladder co 4 will never be forgotten. May they Rest In Peace

As the years pass and the members that were there the day dwindle , It is our solemn pledge to teach the members that joined our ranks after that day to alway remember Bobby and Joe for their supreme sacrifice to our town! WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!

The Massapequa Fire Dept. mourns the loss of NYPD Police Officer Jonathan E. Diller, Queens South CRT, who was killed in the line of duty Monday 3/25 while protecting New York City.

We would like to congratulate the Nassau County Fire Service Academy’s Chief Instructor, Chief Bobby Hughes, on his retirement today. We hope he enjoys a very happy and healthy retirement.
