PTO Newsletter: PTO Newsletter

Good afternoon, Matthews Elementary School Families! We have had a great second week of school. Thank you for your patience as we continue to get dismissal procedures clear for students and families. As a reminder for walker families, please do not walk through the car rider area as you return home from getting your students. We have to ensure the safety of all students.

Monday is Independence Day for all students. Families will no longer be able to walk students to class. Staff members will be throughout the building to help all students get to class. Your students have practiced and they are ready to be independent or walk with a friend!

If you have not registered for Parent Square, please do so as soon as possible. Multiple invitations have been sent out to families since early August. The district will use this form of communication for families as well as the school. We will send out all reminders and the Weekly Message, through Parent Square. The PTO weekly newsletter is also sent through Parent Square.

Looking ahead, our first Early Release Day is Wednesday, September 25th. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 AM and will have lunch before dismissal. Buses will arrive home three hours early. Car riders and walker families should be in line no later than 11:45 AM. Please notify day care providers of this date. Curriculum Night for families will be held on Thursday, September 26th. Two identical sessions will be held at 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM. Families only need to attend one session. A session for third grade families will be held at 6:05 PM for information regarding Read to Achieve in the media center.

Thank you for your continued support! Have a great evening!.

Good afternoon, Matthews ES Families! Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! Tomorrow is the first day of school for students in grades 1-5. Kindergarten students who attend school on Monday will also start tomorrow. Please check the letter for your child’s staggered entry day. No kindergarten students will come on Thursday but all kindergarten students will come on Friday. Teachers will call families by early afternoon on Thursday. Open House for kindergarten students is Thursday from 4:00-5:00 PM. Feel free to bring your child’s supplies to the classroom during Open House.

Our website is updated with all events and the special area 6-day rotation schedule. You will also find the PTO Schedule of Events uploaded to our website as well as the beginning of year forms. You can access the website at the following link: https://www.cmsk12.org/matthewsES

Please see the reminders below:

Transportation: Please be at the bus stop at least 10-15 minutes before the time listed in the morning. Buses most likely will be later than expected in the afternoon as bus drivers and students learn the routes and stops. Families need to learn their child’s bus number as we cannot send messages to separate buses this school year. Transportation and information regarding downloading the Here Comes the Bus app can be found at the following link: https://www.cmsk12.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=107

2. If you did not receive your child’s car rider/walker sign at Open House, you will get the sign on Monday afternoon. If you have your sign, please be sure to bring the sign with you to the walker line and have the sign displayed in your front window in the car rider line. The car rider line will move slower for the first week as students learn procedures and our staff members learn the car riders and their cars. At any time during the year, families who do not have their sign will have to show ID to get their child. The car rider line will be longer during the first week as some students may not have an assigned bus yet. We appreciate your patience. Walkers should only come in the front door. Students should not be dropped off near the Community Center.

3. Families may walk students to class on Monday. Please be aware that if families would like to enter the building, they must enter through the front lobby and sign in through Lobbyguard. A visitor MUST have a photo ID to sign in. No exceptions will be made at any time during the year. Once a visitor signs in, a secretary or school official will check the ID and name tag to ensure a match. Please understand that the lines will be very long the first few days as we only have two computers so visitors will need to be patient as we get everyone signed in to the building. Adults will be stationed throughout the building if your child wants to walk on their own.

4. Students may not be dismissed early after 2:00 PM.

5. Matthews Alive will be held in Matthews next weekend. Please be aware that many roads around the school will be affected on Friday, August 30th. Check the Matthews PD page for information about road closures so that you can plan your best route if your area is affected. No staff or students will come to school on Monday, September 2nd due to the Labor Day holiday.

6. The Annual Notice Letter to Parents is attached to this message.

7. As a reminder, if you are interested in joining our School Improvement Team, please email Mr. Franzone by Tuesday, August 26th. The following is a link to the letter that was shared last week: SLT letter 2024 parent.docx Please include a short blurb about yourself in the email to be included on the ballot. We need to add two members for the school year.

8. The Parent/Student Handbook can be accessed at the following link: Parent/Student Handbook 2024-2025

We are so excited to see all of our students on Monday! Have a great evening and thank you for your support!

Good evening, Matthews Elementary School Families! This is Penni Beth Crisp with your Weekly Update. Students will not come to school on Monday due to the Memorial Day Holiday. The front office will also be closed. Students will return to school on Tuesday, May 28th. Students in grades 3-5 will take the Math EOG on Wednesday. If families want to attend the end of year parties, anyone who enters the building must have a photo ID, license or passport, to sign in through Lobbyguard.

Good evening, Matthews Elementary School Families! This is Penni Beth Crisp with important reminders about EOG testing. End-of-Grade tests start tomorrow for students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. Students will take the reading EOG tomorrow. Testing starts promptly at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives after this time, he or she must take a makeup test on a different day. We cannot interrupt the testing session once testing has started. Students always do better when they take the test on the scheduled test day with their peers. No students can be dismissed until all students have completed testing for the day. Please do not plan on checking any students out early in grades 3-5 until after 12:00 PM. We are not able to make any exceptions to this policy.

Lunch, special area, and recess schedules will be different for all grade levels on testing days so please check with your child’s teacher if you need to know the revised schedule.

Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest this evening. Students should eat their normal breakfast before testing. The Math EOG will be given to students on May 29th and the Science EOG will be given to fifth graders only on May 31st. Information regarding 3rd grade retests will be shared with individual families if needed.

Best of luck to our amazing students! Students are well-prepared and will do great!

¡Mucha suerte a nuestros increíbles estudiantes!

Lunch, special area, and recess schedules will be modified so check with your child’s teacher if you need to know about changes. Please review the testing dates and be sure your child is at school on time. Students always perform better when taking the test with their class on the scheduled testing date.

Looking ahead, students and staff will be out of school on Monday, May 27th for the Memorial Day holiday. Students will return to school on Tuesday, May 28th.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a great evening!
