Community,
Tonight from 6p.m. to 8p.m. we will all enjoy Trick or Treat. We ask that all motorist please slow their speed and pay extra attention to pedestrians. With colder temperatures, please bundle up to stay warm. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween this year. Below are some additional safety tips for Halloween:
Plan Ahead:
•Choose a well-lit route and plan your trick-or-treating in advance.
•Ensure your children know the route and have a map or GPS device if necessary.
•Set a time limit for when your kids should return home.
Costume Safety:
•Make sure costumes are flame-resistant and not too long to prevent tripping.
•Avoid masks that restrict vision.
•Ensure costumes are well-fitted to prevent trips and falls.
•Add reflective tape or stickers to costumes to increase visibility.
Carry Lights:
•Give each child a flashlight with fresh batteries.
•Use glow sticks or LED lights to make kids more visible in the dark.
Traffic Safety:
•Always look both ways before crossing streets and do not cross in front of vehicles. If provided, a cross-walk should be used.
•Encourage children to walk, not run, between houses.
•Watch out for distracted or impaired drivers.
Supervision:
•Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
•Make sure everyone has a charged cell phone for communication.
Inspect Treats:
•Check all candy and treats for any signs of tampering or damage before consuming.
•Avoid homemade treats from strangers.
•Follow any food allergy precautions.
Home Safety:
•Keep your home well-lit and clear of tripping hazards for visiting trick-or-treaters.
•Use battery-operated candles in pumpkins instead of real candles to prevent fire hazards.
Respect Others:
•Respect others' property.
Stay safe and Happy Halloween!
