Daniel Lara has been employed with the City of McAllen for more than 36 years. He began working at the South Wastewater Treatment Plant in 1987. Back in those days there was only one wastewater treatment plant in McAllen. He left for a brief moment in 1999 to go work at a Dallas treatment facility but came back 4 months later and was hired again but this time to work at the North Wastewater Treatment Plant.
He holds an A license in wastewater treatment but most of all he has a lot of experience in all fields related to the treatment process of the plant.
Throughout the years Daniel has proven to be a very reliable employee; always here when required and always on time. He is also an excellent colleague. He gets along with everyone, and he is always in a good mood.
Danny loves sports. Everything from football to soccer and all in between. He likes to keep up a healthy lifestyle. He watches what he eats and exercises frequently. He enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
We are honored to present Daniel Lara with the employee of the month for May 2024 and congratulate him for his many years of service with McAllen Public Utility.
McAllen Public Utility Board Vice Chairman Ernest R. Williams was awarded the 2024 WEAT Outstanding Public Official Award. Mr. Williams’ support of MPU’s past and current infrastructure projects and operations is a testament of his character and commitment to our wonderful utility.
Fun fact: Mr. Williams has served on our Public Utility Board since 2009!
Congratulations and way to go Mr. Williams!

Water/Ways dives into water—an essential component of life on our planet, environmentally, culturally, and historically. In societies across the globe, water serves as a source of peace and contemplation. Many faiths revere water as a sacred symbol. Authors and artists are inspired by the complex character of water—a substance that is seemingly soft and graceful, and yet a powerful and nearly unstoppable force.
