In partnership with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 76, the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department is happy to recognize “The Birds and the Bats Project” which was created by Matthew Vela who is currently pursuing his Eagle Scout badge.

The project brings a great list of benefits to the McAllen Nature Center including a bird watching experience that allows for the observation of birds without disturbance & the promotion of green space usage for the education of wildlife, parks & native species.

Through this project, Matthew and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 76 created a bird blind for unobtrusive bird watching, sanded and painted picnic tables and a bench, and constructed bat boxes to aid local wildlife.

McAllen Parks and Recreation is honored and grateful to have been part of Matthew Vela's Eagle Scout journey.
