Flashlight Nights continues to find cool wildlife every walk! From scorpions to toads and spiders to bioluminescent click beetles, these guided nature tours always find something neat in the forest. Express your creativity by crafting a moth, bug, beetle, or just a pretty design with leaves from our local plants during Mothing by Moonlight! This portion of the event takes place in the courtyard.

Slow down and connect with nature through the practice of forest bathing. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing is an agenda-free, sensory-based experience meant to align you here and now. Join a Certified Forest Therapy Guide who will offer a series of invitations to explore a deeper connection with nature and with yourself.

This Thursday, 7/18/24, enjoy the sounds of Backbeat Quartet during Chicharra Fest! Take a walk through the Cicada Symphony trail and then grab a seat under the South Oak for a jazz concert and jam session.

Things we've enjoyed seeing the past couple Flashlight Nights: it's in the peak of cicada season, so finding cicadas emerging is right on cue; Anacua Tortoise Beetle larva are little aliens (no more needs said); and striped bark scorpions are active. Each of the past two Mothing by Moonlight events we've seen over 100 species of wildlife, including moths, beetles, cicadas, spiders, and scorpions. With the recent rains, we're hoping this year will bring even more activity than usual! Make sure to bring a flashlight!

Summer can be a busy time for the whole family so take a step back tonight and join us for a Family Nature Poetry Walk with Taylor! Awaken all 5 senses by walking through the trails and becoming one with nature. Program will start at 7pm and writing material will be provided.

Yoga has been postponed due to weather.

Our demonstration meadows are in bloom again and full of life! We maintain these spaces to increase the biodiversity of the park and to showcase powerful pollinator plants like Cowpen Daisy, Upright Prairie Coneflower, Zizotes Milkweed, and more. As a bonus, volunteers help us collect native wildflower and grass seeds to use in habitat creation projects and as giveaways to the public. Last year, we gave away over 500 native seed packets in collaboration with the Native Plant Project.

Join us for a special night event on July 20, 2024 to celebrate National Moth Week! We'll have mothing stations and insect displays, dimly lit paths for a self-guided exploration of our thornforest at night, and moon viewing plus leaf art activities in the courtyard. Event is from 9pm to midnight, with a $5 admission fee. Bring your own flashlights!
