Our demonstration meadows are in bloom again and full of life! We maintain these spaces to increase the biodiversity of the park and to showcase powerful pollinator plants like Cowpen Daisy, Upright Prairie Coneflower, Zizotes Milkweed, and more. As a bonus, volunteers help us collect native wildflower and grass seeds to use in habitat creation projects and as giveaways to the public. Last year, we gave away over 500 native seed packets in collaboration with the Native Plant Project.

Shedding layers lately? This newly emerged Giant Cicada (Chicharra Grande) is molting its exoskeleton as it reaches adulthood. One reason they likely emerge at night is to avoid the keen eyes of birds during the day - kiskadees, grackles, and many other birds love to snack on cicadas.
