This is Mr. Luis Resendez, a patient from our facility in Solara McAllen who was admitted to a hospital due to Acute Hypoxemic Respiratory failure. Mr. Resendez had a tracheostomy and had to be connected to a ventilator to help him breathe and depended on a feeding tube for his nutrition. He was eventually transferred to our facility where the Nursing team, Respiratory team and the Rehabilitation team aggressively worked with him as he slowly got better. After about 5 weeks, Mr. Resendez was weaned off the ventilator, he was decannulated and was breathing on his own and passed his swallowing study and was able to eat by mouth. Functionally, he was also able to get up out of bed on his own and ambulate in the hallway without an assistive device. He was finally discharged home and he plans to go back to school soon to be a nurse. God bless and Good luck on your future plans Mr. Resendez!

Mr. Eric Racine is an 81 year old male who underwent a simple sinuplasty procedure last April 13 of this year. He ended up having Acute Encephalopathy with large tension Pneumocephalus and underwent a lateral borehole craniectomy with drainage of the Pneumocephalus. He eventually had a tracheostomy and was hooked up to a ventilator machine and was placed PEG tube. He was then transferred to our Solara facility in McAllen for further management. Initially, Mr. Raccine was not able to move on his own and had to depend on a ventilator to breathe and on a feeding tube for nutrition. The Nurses, Respiratory therapists and the Rehab team immediately worked with him as a part of our Early Mobility program. It was tough working with Mr. Raccine since he had a lot of complications from his surgery. But through the support of his wife and his daughter and the patience and determination of our Solara team, as well as his desire to get better, Mr. Raccine was able to get up out of bed with minimal assistance and was able to walk at least approx. 50 ft with a walker. Our Speech Therapist also worked with him and passed his swallow study and was able to get him to eat again. Mr. Raccine was eventually transferred to an in-patient rehab facility to further work on his recovery. Good luck on your recovery Mr. Raccine!

This is the case of Ms. Dora Watts, a 66 year old patient, who was involved in a motor vehicle accident May of this year and was found with multiple injuries including right renal avulsion with grade 3 left kidney injury and liver laceration. She had an emergency Exploratory Laparotomy on May 28 and she was intubated afterwards due to Hypoxemic and Hypercapnic respiratory failure and a feeding tube was placed for nutrition and was eventually placed on a ventilator to help her breathe. Afterwards, she was transferred to our facility here in McAllen and started her Mobility program. The Rehab department started aggressively working with her with the help of the Respiratory therapists and the Nursing team. Initially, Miss Watts had a hard time getting up and out of bed and was not tolerating much activity due to her condition. But through the encouragement of her daughters, her church family and her determination to go home and see her ailing husband, Miss Watts was able to beat the odds. On her last rehab session, Miss Watts was able to get up out of bed on her own and walk more than 150 feet with a walker. She was breathing on her own, she passed her swallowing study and was able to eat regular food. Miss Watts and her family were very appreciative of all the hard work done by our Solara staff and was finally able to go home and see her husband.

πŸŽ₯ : Juan B., 71, was admitted to Solara McAllen following a car accident that led to broken ribs and a lacerated liver. On admission to Solara, he was reliant on a ventilator, tracheostomy tube, and a feeding tube. He was unable to walk, talk, or move. The interdisciplinary team – nursing, rehabilitation, and respiratory – immediately began working with Juan as a part of the early mobility program. He was eventually weaned off the ventilator and passed his swallowing study so he could return to a normal diet. The PT/OT teams worked together to mobilize Juan and he is now able to get out of bed on his own, transfer from the bed to the chair with minimal assistance and walk 120 feet with a walker. After a five-week stay, Juan was discharged to a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery but is looking forward to returning home to his ranch.
