Congratulations to Shawn Kennedy from Providence Forge, Virginia, for achieving a new Virginia Archery State Record Longnose Gar! Shawn arrowed this 23-pound longnose gar from the Pamunkey River. The fish measured 4 feet 6 inches, had a girth of 17 1/2 inches.

After biologist verification and review by the State Record Committee, Mr. Kennedy’s catch was certified and is recognized. The previous record was held by Blake Deal with a 21 pound, 13 ounce longnose gar captured from Lake Gaston in 2019.

I ran into one of my favorite customers, Chris Dunnevant today. All the way up here in Nelson County! What a blessing to visit with him for a few minutes.

Use caution when launching at the North Bend Main Boat Ramp and Palmer Point Boat Ramp. These two boat ramps over the years have filled in with sand and people may not be able to launch from these areas depending on the size/length of your boat and trailer. DREDGING PROJECT TO BEGIN AT OSBORNE LANDING
The Virginia Department Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be temporarily closing Osborne Landing from January 25, 2021 – March 1, 2021. This closing will allow for the dredging of sediment that has built up in the basin and is currently impeding boat traffic.

Throughout the dredging process, the boat landing will be closed to the public for launch and retrieving. For access to the river during this closure, please use the boating access sites at Deep Bottom in Henrico County, or Dutch Gap in Chesterfield County.

This work is taking place during the off season to lessen the impact on the public and to adhere to migratory fish time-of-year restrictions, allowing for the facility to open and be operational just in time for the spring 2021 fishing and boating season.
