Tomorrow (2/19), Aadita Chaudhury (York University) will speak about Wilderness in the fire sciences as part of Tufts' Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Lunch Seminar. She will discuss institutional fire ecology, a scientific approach to managing wildfires. This approach is undergirded by a concept called “wildland-urban interface,” or the idea that there is a clear separation between urban territory and wilderness. However, due to the recent upsurge in popular conversations about wildfires, this model’s separation is collapsing. She will explore what this means for the future of ecological governance, alongside insights about the status of the nature-culture divide writ-large.
