The Experimental College at Tufts is excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Explorations, our peer teaching and advising program. Since its inception, students have designed and taught their own courses, and mentored new Jumbos through their first semester at Tufts.
View our 50th anniversary website commemorating the occasion and explore the artifacts and stories that we hope capture the heart and soul of Explorations. You’ll find photos, past course syllabi, and stories of Explorations leaders, their students, and even their kids, who went on to teach their own Explorations!

In June of 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned in the landmark decision Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. What does abortion, contraceptive use, and reproductive freedom look like now? What will the future of abortion be in Massachusetts, and in the country? What can the history of these cases teach us?
At the ExCollege’s first-ever event exploring reproductive rights, hear from lawyers, healthcare providers, and educators in a panel format, and stay after to chat with organizations and advocacy groups from Tufts and the greater Boston area. Join us Thursday, March 30th from 6:00pm - 7:45pm in Tisch Library, Room 304. For more information, visit https://excollege.tufts.edu/news-events/events

Her class explores the phenomenon of voluntourism, wherein people travel for the purpose of providing charity to some region but not in the capacity of a humanitarian aid worker. More specifically, voluntourism's intersection with neoliberalism, globalization, the rise of mass-media, and neocolonialism are examined and critiqued.

Introduction Myshko (Mih-sch-k-oh)! He joined the ExCollege after working there as a work-study student and leading an Explorations course. He puts together our weekly newsletter, provides instructor support, collaborates with the rest of the team on evaluating and hiring visiting lecturers, and tries his best to catch whatever falls through the cracks. Outside of work, Myshko likes to bike, make sound art/field recordings, and write and read about political economy, philosophy, and ecology, among others.
This week’s is Gillian Rooney💡! Gillian is a senior currently teaching the class “How To Not Get Scammed.” Her class examines the most popular scams in circulation, gives students the tools to analyze the similarities and differences between scams, and provides considerations to prevent future victimization. They focus on multi-level marketing schemes, such as LuLaRoe leggings and Amway, pyramid schemes, Ponzi schemes, and various forms of grifting and fraud. Students are encouraged to come up with their own definitions and develop their own ideas on why people continue to be victims of scams, despite public knowledge on their veritability.
Why should you be an Explorations teacher💡? Check out this video for more information on the Explorations program and hear from past instructors!
