Be Free Revolution
Our mission is to help others help themselves. We work to relieve hunger, empower men/women, counsel the vulnerable and teach the tools for success.
Be Free Revolution (BFR), founded by Britney Lee Christie and Lacey Pease Stluka, is a Memphis based organization dedicated to helping others help themselves. In July 2011, Britney led a mission team with a local church to Kenya and Lacey was a member of her team. While on mission, they became heavily burdened with situations of r**e, children not able to decipher what love meant, adults unable to
“Cabin time is when we gathered after the events of the day & the Holy Spirit went to work. We spent hours each night studying God’s Word, His love, the spiritual blessings given to those who place their faith in Him, & the new position we have in Christ. It started with my cabin of 5 guys & quickly turned into a packed house with guys from the other cabins eager to get a taste of how sweet it is to learn such rich truths. These guys were faithful, available, & teachable. We went on until past midnight & they were on the edge of their beds.
Cabin time is where most of the relationships began, where trust was fostered. It’s where they began to experience freedom from worldly identities & truly started to understand their identity in Christ. It is clear that Be Free has & is earning the trust of these Kenyans, as they were opening up, being vulnerable & allowing others into their lives. They are not only learning how to be in a discipleship relationship, but also how to be a disciple maker. Our batteries were recharged- not by sleep but by opening our Bibles & talking about life.
Cabin time is also where we learned professionalism, being on time, & respecting others’ space & belongings. It was a chance for the younger guys to see how the older guys live. It was a hot shower and a good nights rest on a comfortable mattress, inside a locked house. It was waking together to say “good morning”, to pray together before we walked out the door & before we closed our eyes to go to sleep at night. Cabin time is where I want to travel back to.
Cabin time was proof that the harvest is plentiful. It is where I saw the benefit the donors & sponsors bring. To all of you, don’t stop believing that good things come from your donations. Keep giving these guys a chance, keep praying for them to receive Christ, to understand who God is, who they are in Christ, & how they can be the generation of males that make a great impact. Your generosity is going to a group of kids that are humble & are fighting to seek a better life. Your donations are in the hands of an organization who is stewarding their money well. God is at work & He’s choosing to use BFR. Praise God.”

On the team’s final day in Nairobi, they spent time with our Kenyan team to rest and debrief. They were delighted to finally meet two BFR Scholars, Kennedy and Selina, whom they had missed on previous days. Later, they visited the Giraffe Centre, where they fed giraffes, followed by a final team dinner to reflect on the highs and lows of the week. This trip was undeniably incredible for our US team, Kenyan staff, and all the BFR Kids/Scholars! There’s truly nothing better than being with our BFR Family in Kenya, doing ministry. 💕
Craig and Rob are both traveling home today! Please keep them in your prayers as they return to their homes and families 🛬
We began the day with a visit to the site of BFR’s upcoming Ignite camps, Lukenya Getaway. The grounds of Lukenya are beautiful and the facilities will accommodate all that BFR is envisioning for Ignite. We prayed over the grounds anticipating what is to come in late August!
Rob and I are spending lots of time with our Kenyan friends from the BFR staff. Taking advantage of every moment, we encouraged one another over lunch by sharing wisdom that we’ve learned and by discussing what it means to serve as a leaders in ministry.
And then it was on to visit the young women who live at the BFR Scholars’ “Mighty House.” Rob and I coached the girls on best practices when on a job interview and actually interviewed each girl. (They were collectively poised and mature. Someone should hire any/all of them!) Then we concluded the evening with a delicious meal prepared by the girls and a family style discussion that touched on relationships, struggles, and faith. To sum it all up, there’s so much promise in the BFR circle today.

Our first day on the ground in Kenya was full. Full of activity, full of encouragement, full of love. From the start, we were feeling the family vibe. Rob and I joined the Kenyan team for their staff meeting and we read from the first chapter of 1 Timothy. There the Apostle Paul refers to Timothy as his “true son”, expressing that there is a bond that runs even deeper than bloodlines through Christ. Inspired by that reality, we launched into our day with a strong sense of oneness.
After a trip to the local grocery and an amazing lunch whipped up by Jael, we experienced the biggest thrill of the day - an afternoon with the new BFR Scholars. This class of ten young men and women laughed and enjoyed each other through a series of games and then dug deep into a discussion about God-sized dreams.
We are helping to make preparations for Ignite in August. Several of the Scholars are going to be empowered to serve as camp counselors at Ignite. Rob and I loved having the chance to interview a few of the kids who have applied for this role today. At one point, one of the young leaders told us about the dream that God has planted in her heart. It’s a dream to care for the unserved special needs population of Kenya. The power of her dream was palpable and inspiring.
It all felt like true family, one that we are gratefully included

They’re off! 🛫🇰🇪

Celebrating Miss Dorothy! 🌟
We couldn’t be prouder of her! Throughout her time with BFR, she has been a blessing to everyone she meets. Dorothy’s dedication to her studies, kindness to her peers, and incredible responsibility and strength are truly inspiring.
She recently completed her Business Data Analytics studies at Vision Institute of Professionals and is now diving into her first month of practicals at an auditing firm in Nairobi. She’s loving this opportunity to deepen her knowledge in accounting and prepare for her future career!
These are the kinds of stories we are all about! Dorothy is working hard to create a beautiful, independent life for herself. We exist to help others help themselves, full circle. ❤️
We’re Back to School! 🏫 🎉
After a prolonged holiday break due to flooding in Kenya, the BFR Kids and Scholars are joyfully returning to their studies for Term 2! We are so thankful for the saftey of each one of them and thrilled to see them return to their normal routines!
Thank you to those who prayed with us during the flooding in Kenya! There are still many lives that have been affected by the high waters, and we will continue to keep them in our prayers! 💕
Be Free Revolution exists to help people help themselves full circle.
What does that mean?
That means we are dedicated to equipping each BFR Kid and Scholar in our sponsorship program, and even our staff, to build themselves a beautiful, successful life through education, discipleship and counseling so that they are able to help people in their communities do the same. We pray and hope this cycle continues for years to come!
There is good news for you here too: YOU can be involved in this vision! Stay tuned for how ✨

Impact Chef is an academy based in Nairobi, Kenya, providing practical culinary & hospitality courses. We currently have four BFR Scholars studying at Impact Chef, and two of those Scholars are awaiting their internships at prestigious hotels in Kenya!

*In Need of Sponsorship*
If you have met them- you love them! These two cuties and best friends, Philip and Odhis, have been in our program a long time and if you have served on mission with us, their faces are likely known and loved by you.
Philip and Odhis both lost their parents at a young age and came to live at Pehucci Children’s Home with only the shirts on their back. BFR stepped in to help support them as a family unit with their school needs, basic and daily needs, emotional support, medical care and more. They are both in need of new sponsors and have moved to the top of our high need list.
Becoming their sponsor you would not just help support the needs above, but you would walk alongside their life, just like a family. You could connect to them and send them love and care. You could even serve on mission and get to know them face to face and create a meaningful relationship. That is the beauty of BFR Kids because it is more than a sponsorship- it is a family.
Our global work is not covered by large corporations so our sponsorships are crucial in covering each student’s needs and without them we cannot open up these opportunities of education and care. So our prayer is that you are able to come alongside Philip and Odhis in sponsorship so we can continue to support them in their education. It is truly a life changing program that changes it just their life but the sponsor as well💛.
If you are interested in sponsoring one of our boys here, please send us a message or comment below or you can email [email protected]
This month is always a busy one for us and our staff as we get all of our primary and secondary and even scholars back to school! Students are going into a new grade and our team gets them situated with all their school supplies, uniforms, textbooks, boarding needs, transportation and more! We have kids in 21 different schools so our team is working overtime to fulfill all the school requirements and needs for our students and ensure they get to their schools safely. It’s is a crazy awesome time that is full of smiles and excitement as you can see! We are so incredibly grateful to all our sponsors who make all this possible!!! What a gift it is to help these students receive an education!!
Before the year closes out please consider giving toward our BFR Scholar program! It truly is a life changing program and every donation allows us to continue to support our kids through colleges, universities and trade schools and empowers them to cross the finish line of their education. End of year donations help offset the higher tuitions, lodging, transportation and school needs. We are still in great need of your support and are incredibly grateful to those who have already given! We cannot do this work without your support and generosity.

What a monumental day! Our very own, Maxwell, graduated from Maseno University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science!
Maxwell has had an anything but easy journey. After losing his parents he lived with his grandmother in one of the largest slums in Africa. Before his sponsorship he was unable to be in school consistently. Even with those obstacles he still kept achieving high grades. Through his wonderful sponsors, he went on to a top high school where he performed exceptionally well. From there was accepted into the Bachelor’s program- a huge testament that your circumstances do not define your future!
Max, we are in awe of you. Your intelligence, faith, drive, creativity, passion, wit, and resilience are inspiring. We are incredibly proud of you and honored to walk alongside you in and through it all. We know for sure the best is yet to come.
We are grateful to their sponsors who have stood with Maxwell since day one!! Without them, this would not be possible and we are humbled by your steadfast commitment and loyalty to Maxwell!
This is one of those days you remember that God can always see what’s ahead in our lives so to keep trusting Him and keep our eyes fixed on Him because He is working all things together for our good.
Meet 4 of the 12 students we are trying to get to college! With your help filling up our Giving Tree we, along with their sponsors, can get them into colleges, trade schools, and universities across Kenya.
Reginah grew up at Pehucci Children’s Home and she became a BFR Kid at the young age of 11. She is a leader by nature, strong and passionate!
Ashton grew up in Kibera slum, in extreme poverty and difficult home life. Through his hard work he was able to go to a wonderful high school and has his sights set on college.
Mercy grew up most of her life at Pehucci Children’s Home but was able to go to a wonderful high school outside of Pehucci. She has seen much hardship in her young life, but remains kind and hopeful for her future.
Tony grew up in Kibera slums in extreme poverty and a chaotic home. Tony managed to maintain top grades, even though he could not afford to be in school consistently before his sponsorship. He finished out at a top high school with his sights on college.
Since our students are entering various colleges, the needs are more expensive- so together with their sponsors and your end of year giving - we can make that dream a reality! 100% of your giving goes toward college tuitions, room and board expenses, school supply needs, and transportation to and from their programs. Please consider joining us in this incredible opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through education!

Help us put ornaments on the Giving Tree!!🌲 This year we need your help more than ever and it is our prayer you choose BFR for your end of year generosity through our Giving Tree.
All you do is choose an amount in one of the squares, donate that amount and we will place an ornament on the tree!
By participating in our Giving Tree, you will be giving towards a crucial piece of BFR - our Scholars! Since most of our Scholars live in BFR Housing, education expenses and the needs are higher, end of year giving enables us to meet needs above their sponsorship
provision📚🏠.
Our BFR Scholar program not only provides education, but also leadership and life skills needed to move to the next stage of life while become contributing members of their communities.
We have 12 new BFR Scholars waiting to join various colleges and trade schools! We cannot meet all the needs required without your end of year support!

It is with heavy hearts to share that our beloved Pastor Jane has gone to be with The Lord.
If you have ever traveled to Kenya with us then you most likely met Pastor Jane. She was a powerful presence full of exuberant love for others, especially the kids at the school she founded, Wings of Life. She was BFR’s first partner in Kenya. She welcomed so many not only into her school, but in her home. She advocated for these kids constantly and her passion was with her until the final day. We can still hear the sound of her laugh and the wisdom of her preaching and the feel of her hugs and love. Her passion for the Bible and God was contagious! She is someone whose legacy and impact will live on through generations!
We love you Pastor Jane and you will never be forgotten. We know that you are singing on the mountaintops of heaven.
