Our Story

Hi, there. My name is Rick Spell. My daughter and business partner, Christy Spell Terry, and I became the proud owners of five profitable BABALU® locations in October 2019. BABALU® boasts restaurants in Jackson, Mississippi, and two locations in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 2004, the Spell Restaurant Group has created a collection of casual and fine dining restaurants that have one thing in common – fun. Our approach with BABALU® is no different. Food and fun are what it’s all about, right? With delicious food that marries the southern cuisine we all know and love with traditional Latin fare, handcrafted cocktails and popular sangria offerings, we are excited for YOU to fall in love with BABALU®.

In case you are unfamiliar, BABALU® is a fun, one-of-a-kind, sharing-style dining experience. We are proud to use hyper-local produce and products for our made-from-scratch dishes and handcrafted cocktails whenever possible. And, our delicious guacamole made table-side with fresh ingredients is a must for all guests. Our tapas and tacos are served tapas-style, which means they arrive at your table as they are ready.

The patios at all BABALU® locations can be rented out for special events, such as happy hours, birthday parties, engagement celebrations and more, too. Or, if you’re looking to take BABALU® outside our walls for your next shindig, we can make that happen. From small backyard birthdays to large corporate events, our customizable catering offerings span a wide spectrum.
