Our bilingual production of Calderón de la Barca's classic play about free will, morality, and the illusion of reality opens October 19th at the MAC.

This remarkable story, adapted and translated from the original text by Bristin Jones for this production, is our first collaboration with the UC Merced Spanish Program. Four performances only, so do not miss out!

Audition Notice for La vida es sueño/Life is Dream!

Auditions will take place on Wednesday 9/4 at UC Merced from 12-1:15pm in SSM 116 and on Saturday 9/7 from 11am-2pm at the Multicultural Arts Center (MAC) in Downtown Merced. You may come to either audition.

Las audiciones se llevarán a cabo el miércoles 4 de septiembre a las 12-1:15pm en SSM 116 en UC Merced y el sábado 7 de septiembre a las 11am-2pm en el Multicultural Arts Center (MAC) en Merced. Puedes venir a cualquiera de las audiciones.

In this collaboration between Merced Shakespearefest and the UC Merced Spanish Program, students and community members perform a new bilingual adaptation of Calderón de la Barca's timeless play. With additional funding provided by the Center for the Humanities, this deeply philosophical performance encourages the actors and audience alike to consider fundamental questions such as what is reality, what makes a good life, and what responsibilities do we hold to our fellow human beings.

Actors do not need to be bilingual.

It is disheartening. As I am looking through props and costumes I am finding more things missing: the tub with the belts, lots of black leather belts, with frogs to hold swords, decorated belts, simple belts; and where is the box with our crowns?
WHAT DO THIEVES DO WITH THIS??
We will be launching a CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN to replace the stolen items once we have figured out just how big of a hit we've taken. Every donation, big or small will be welcome.
And our heartfelt thanks to those who have right away given to us - it sure softened the blow.

You might have heard about our Sound System being stolen about 3 weeks ago - but all small prop and stage combat weapons as well, among them this dagger that Shawn Overton very cleverly used to characterize Lady Macbeth ( Traci Sprague) and that Colton Dennis as Macbeth used in the dagger speech in 2016!
Sigh - all costume jewelry is also missing…
