Michael Anthony Rosales is an artist that immigrated from Tijuana, Mexico. He now lives and works in Merced, California. Artist Statement
My artwork is based on the destruction of humanity. I am inspired by the destruction because I see it everywhere. Itās unavoidable to run from. It is important to me that everyone is reminded of the destruction in the world. That is why I create artwork that depicts destroyed buildings, natural disasters like earthquakes, the disappearance of individuals, and crimes against human rights. People do not devote enough time to the bad things that happen in the world. I create my artworks through the use of: graphite, ink, paint, clay, wood, and fiber materials such as yarn and felt. I use different sources to gain information such as the public news, reference photos found online and books, and personal stories shared by family, friends, and colleagues. I believe that it is important to make art because it helps me process reality.
Chaotic Humanity was curated by Michael Anthony Rosales led by Visual Arts Instructor and had support from EC Artists Rachelle Ramirez.
JRuiz worked on this drawing today, she prefers to keep her originals, but prints of her original colored pencil drawings and watercolors are available for made-to-order here at the EC.
Itās planning week; weāve got meetings, planning for our next series of workshops and studios and exercise and games for physical wellness, building healthy habits, socializing and bonding.
Today we talked about what our favorite things are as our topic of the day, the importance of knowing what you like and how knowing what brings joy to us individually helps us when we are feeling down, upset or in a mood. Some of our favorites we wanted to know from each other were favorite food, music, color and cartoon.
We followed our talk with bowling, Brenda won 1st place and Salgado won 2nd place!
We ended the day with picking a kung foo movie from the late 70s, we canāt wait to come back and finish it.
Weāve got lots of stunning bowls that came out of the kiln from our Bowl Glazing Workshop! Theyāll be available for purchase at The MAC on the Third Floor and at the next Mercado Night Market!
We had an awesome visit from Oscar Torres, writer and artist of his graphic novel one of the Heartland Grant projects.
