Here is âThe Big Mâ Logo Monument on-campus, reimagined through emojis.
On Monday, Chancellor Juan Sånchez Muñoz joined the ribbon-cutting for the State Route 99 Plainsburg-Arboleda Columbian Mammoth Silhouette project. Nearly 2,000 Ice-Age fossils, including the Columbian Mammoth, were discovered and are now displayed at our Kolligian Library. Caltrans, District 10 installed mammoth silhouettes over the Le Grand and Plainsburg SR-99 overpasses. Chancellor Muñoz highlighted how this project stands as a beacon of our heritage, a source of pride for our community, and a catalyst for curiosity and learning.
Under former UC Merced Professor Mark Aldenderfer's direction, UC Merced accepted the fossils for a permanent display, keeping them local and accessible. The exhibit, on the second floor of the library, features a juvenile mammoth skull and the skull, femur and tusk of a mammoth estimated to be 49 years old at the time of death. The Kolligian Library is open to the public, showcasing the exhibit.
