PSA!

Over the weekend we had several vehicle burglaries. In most cases the vehicles were left unlocked and valuables such as cash, fi****ms, and wallets were left inside. Please lock your doors, keep exterior lights on while it’s dark outside and take valuables, including duffle bags and backpacks, out of your vehicle when you park. Don’t make it easy for vehicle burglars to make you their next victim.

Quick PSA....

With school starting across the valley in the coming weeks, the Meridian Police Department would like to remind drivers to be vigilant in school zones. Over the summer months it can be easy to forget about school zones you may frequently pass through, but please take a moment and be on the lookout for the signage and flashing yellow lights which indicate you’re within a school zone. You may also notice signs with “When children are present” posted in areas surrounding schools. This means when one or more children are present within the marked school zone, on the same side or across from the school building, the school zone speed is in effect. In all cases, these school zones are posted 20 mph, so allow for a few extra minutes in your morning or afternoon commute and keep an eye out for children on sidewalks and crosswalks. Let’s work together to make this a safe start to the school year in Meridian!

Congratulations to Dan Frazier, the recipient of the City of Meridian's Environmental Excellence award. Dan has volunteered his time repairing 1800+ bikes for children in our community through the Recycle a Bike program.

What an incredible act of giving!!

🚲 Attention Meridian residents! 🚲

Need a way to get around town or does your little one need a bike? Apply for a free refurbished bike through Meridian’s Recycle a Bicycle Program! This collaborative project by the City of Meridian’s Solid Waste Advisory Commission and Republic Services connects refurbished bicycles with those in need.
Lots of bicycles are dropped off at the Meridian Transfer Station each year, and the goal of the program is to divert these bicycles from the landfill. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get a free bike and help the environment at the same time. Apply now at www.meridiancity.org/rab 🌳🌎

Thank you to my friends Ashley Squyers and Liz Strader for explaining this issue so well:

“‘Concerned Citizens of Meridian’ wants to dissolve our award winning library system. Uninterested in taking personal responsibility for involvement in the books their kids check out, they instead prefer to take all the books away from everyone.” - Liz Strader

"This group is working on two different avenues to dismantle and/or bankrupt libraries.

First, is by petitioning for complete dissolution of the Meridian Library District. See also: https://boisedev.com/.../meridian-library-district-petition.

Second, if they aren’t successful in this endeavor, House Bill 139 would allow for civil actions against libraries, thus encouraging groups like this to file lawsuit after lawsuit attempting to bankrupt library systems.

You can read the bill here: https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/billbookmark/....

Meridian residents, I implore you to understand what is happening and make it known that this is absolutely not okay." - Ashley Squyers

A group of Ada County residents called Concerned Citizens of Meridian has filed a petition asking the Ada County Board of Commissioners to dissolve the Meridian Library District (MLD). The petition centers on books the group considers offensive that are available to children at the Meridian Library District.
The board is reviewing the petition received late last week and will work with the Clerk’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that the Board follows the required next steps set forth in Title 33, Chapter 27, Idaho Code.
Read the petition that was delivered to the Board, and see what the required next steps are:

I haven't had the opportunity to participate in years past, but excited to make an ornament this year. Who is with me?!

We are once again putting a festive twist on our popular annual Meridian Art Drop by hosting the Meridian Ornament Drop.

Residents of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to make handmade Christmas ornaments to hide (or "drop") in downtown Meridian on Saturday, December 10 for others to find and keep as a gift. Ornaments can be hung from trees, propped on window sills, or placed in any number of creative locations for someone else to find.

Those lucky enough to find an ornament (only one per person, please) are encouraged to post a photo of it on social media using the hashtag .

Details and the Ornament Drop form can be found at meridiancity.org/christmas. Presented by the Meridian Arts Commission.
