Happy 6th Anniversary
I can’t believe we’ve been here this long. Incredible!
October 20, 2012 we opened our doors at Superstition Springs for the first time. What a rush! We were so hopeful. Whatever provoked us to open a business at a time when so many others were closing? I can’t really answer that, other than to say we were optimistic and idealistic. The great recession was over, they said, and, things will get better. The economy is improving. Why not follow our dream and do what we love to do? How many people truly can say they have a job they love?
It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. There were times when I really wanted to throw in the towel. This owning your own business and being your own boss is a lot of work. But not so much the work. Anything worthwhile requires sweat equity. It was more the long hours, the lack of sales, Caroline’s illnesses, that had me tired and concerned and at times overwhelmed. Luckily Caroline, my business partner, took care of the paperwork with relish (she just loved that stuff) and that left me the freedom to do what I liked: the store, the inventory, the customers, the classes, the handcrafted jewelry, etc.
Well, time has passed, and things are a little different now. Better now, thanks to our loyal customers, the beaders and crafters, and the many friends we have made over the years. Yes, I still worry and I still have sleepless nights. Who doesn’t? Caroline, my longtime friend, was forced to take the heavenly highway a year ago and that left me bereft, and desperate. But I’m coping. I have an excellent staff and a wonderful husband. They are a big part of our success.
